Title: Convector 20 level wind rebuild
Post by: Fishnmike on March 22, 2013, 10:01:14 PM
Have an older Convector 20L that has handled a few to many oversized sturgeon and the levelwind was starting to fail.  After having played with most of my reels in the last year upgrading drags, etc. thanks to this site, I decided to tackle this project.  Made an order from Tuna Troubles for a worm gear repair kit, which is just the worm gear and pawl, also ordered a set of carbon fiber drag washers while I was at it.

Popped the reel open as per Alan's tutorial on the Convector 30L and had at it. The internals of the 20 are about the same as the 30 but I can say that there are minor differences in how the drive gear setup is attached to the plate from one convector to the another. Some have a stainless plate, some have plastic but the working design is basicly the same. I have two 30Ls and one 20L and they are all a bit different. The job went easily and had the reel all back together in less than an hour.  The level wind works perfect now and no longer hangs up on the left side.
