Title: rare penn red 85 reel

good morning reel men and ladies.   i have a question hopefully some one can answer,  the rare red penn 85 reel with a black plastic spool from around 1939 or so, are the red side plates painted or are they made from solid red plastic?   thanks  harryk

They should be made from solid red bakelite.

john     i would love to share with you and the members my work bench. i think i'm well organized ,  being handicapped , i sit on my electric scooter to work on the reels as a hobby and everything has to be accessible to me, but besides that the members might get some good ideas with my set up.
