Title: drive/pinion gear noise
Post by: BigT on January 20, 2010, 01:37:12 AM
Hi Alan,

I've just serviced my Pflueger Trion LP baitcaster and there is noise coming from the drive/pinion gears now. I've carefully checked and the rebuild is 100%... I've tracked it down I think to the lube used on the gears.

Is this a common issue and is it likely that I'm correct in thinking it's the lube (I've been using up a small bottle of Daiwa Blue grease... on some of my other reels I've used Shimano Permalube... I'm buying some Yamaha grease when I finish what I have).

Cheers, BigT

I've solved the problem quite easily.  I don't know what sort of grease Daiwa sell in those little bottles but I used your recommendation, Alan (sort of)... I have an E-Tec so had some Evinrude grease around... also blue... and it works great with the motor so I thought I'd give it a whirl.

Much stickier that the Daiwa grease (at least the stuff that's in my bottle)... drive noise gone!!

Cheers, BigT

glad it worked.  i've been busy as hell this last week and am just now catching up.  it appears that i can leave things be for long enough and you guys will eventually figure out things on your own!  there is a tremendous amount of talent here..........
