this i broke,
i ran a 6mm drill bit
and it bit into the alloy handle to hard.
lesson learnt.
ill run smaller drill bits next time
and gradually work up to the 6mm bit

If you are going to modify another handle select a drill the same size as the spindle which is protruding from your old handle knob.(6mm appears a little oversize.)
Check the diameter and length of the spindle on the new knob to ensure that it will fit properly.
The existing handle is 5.85 mm thick so it may be possible to carefully file or Dremel the brass spindle end off rather than by drilling.
Good Luck anyway we have all had similar problems especially when attempting to tighten loose Penn handles ;)

i had no trouble getting the spindle out
i cut 2slots at right angles with the dremel
to give me centre
then i punched, drilled with small bit.
just tapped the spindle out with a nail
itwas when i had to enlarge the hole
to accept the new knob.
6mm bit was needed

You could make it work, if you're not concerned about looks :

The handle spacer is not the same diameter, but functional. :-\

all you need is a pivot to change left to right. If you have the newer gears, you could use the same pivot.

also just swapped the pivot(?)from 650
into 750,couple of washers to take up the slack
and its fine
now leaves me without handle for 750 ::)
i drilled out broken handle (650)and got it working
looks terrible but works
cheers
