Title: Careful with magnetic screwdrivers
Post by: BigT on January 24, 2010, 08:36:57 AM
Hi all,
Just thought I'd share a tip.  I stripped down a reel recently including removing the shields from some bearings (the clipped-in style).

After greasing a particular bearing it took my nearly 20 minutes to find one of the clips... finally found it clinging to a magnetized screwdriver I'd been using. >:(

Cheers, BigT

Be careful not to magnetize a bearing, it may attract unwanted(and almost impossible to remove) particles.

Thanks Jimmer.... very good thought.  I'm off to get some new screwdrivers.

A little blue grease on the screwdriver tip will help hold a screw, and it gets a little grease in the slot too.
