Title: jigmaster 500 4-1 stainless gears
Post by: jigmaster501 on April 20, 2013, 11:48:32 PM
Is anyone making any 4-1 stainless gears for the 500 jigmasters?

With all of the hexagonal gears, I was looking to upgrade to stainless gears.

I have one set that I got a long time ago and don't know who made it.

Was hoping to be able to get a few more.

I fish the east coast and don't need that much speed/ loss of power with the 5-1 gears.

Thanks

not that i know of.  in most cases, i would say they would not be needed, either.  the maganese-bronze alloy that penn uses is quieter because it is softer than stainless steel.  for most applications, i would consider it strong enough, as well.  the teeth of the 5:1 gears are very fine and at high risk for shredding. the 4:1 gear teeth are much heavier and will hold up easily under normal drag ranges.  push any reel to hard and you can damage the gear teeth, but you should be fine.

Newell made them. They are harder to find than Newell's 5:1.
