Title: 1+3 to 1+5 drag
Post by: BMITCH on April 27, 2013, 12:09:25 PM
I know it is probably here somewhere. If someone could chime in. Is it possible to go from a 1+3 jigmaster/112h and update that to a 1+5 set?? Thinner washers both on the CF's and the flat/keyed washers? And if so what are the thickness of these. Any help would be great.

Not much room in the 500 gear.  I don't think we can go much thinner than .035 for the metal washers before the ears distort or rip off and .020 is about as thin as I think CF can be and hold up.   The best hope is a octagon adapter.

Hi Bob,

It depends on which reel you are talking about. The 505/506?  If so, yes. See http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=1518.0. You will need to get the drag washers, 2 metal sets, and the thinnest Smoothdrag carbon fiber washers for it to fit.

The drags are amazingly smoother in this configuration.

Thanks guys. Brian I was referring to the 1:4 regular jigmaster. I do appreciate the link though. I will be doing a 506 in the near future.
Lee, I understand the limitations on the washer thickness. I agree the hex insert would be a vast improvement. Not having one available makes it a little difficult. I was hoping you would have some insight to this upgrade. Thanks for all the help.

As soon as I get the irrigation system up I'll be working on octagon inserts for the 500 gear.

Lee, thanks so much. Wish I could give you a hand with the irrigation system. What are you growing??

Lee,
I may have to fly over with a six-pack and pick your brain and check out your operation. My wife says we're doing sheep (lamb specifically) when the Navy is done with me.

I have a friend who is raising goats and llamas. The noise is enough to drive you mad. Good luck!!

I did goats and Scottish Highlander cows for years. Sheep won't be anything.

What sort of sheep are they, we had perendales for years.

We has Suflok, Hampshire and Shropshire and crosses at one time.  All we have left is 2 older redgestered Sulfok ewes and 2 young ewes that I can't convince my wife to sell.  It's almost as much work as when we had 50 ewes. Our ram died this winter.

My old man switched to Hampshire a few years back, seems to get quite a few sets of twins. My step brother is up on a farm in the middle of no where running about 1500  perendales, he's never been happier. His boss lets him keep his marlin 30 30 on his saddle for shooting any wild pigs he sees. Wild pigs eat stillborn lambs or if they are quick they can catch newborns too. Not quite in the same league as coyotes and cougars though.

Ok fellas, as much as I've been enjoying reading this post, we need to bring it back to the drag question, yes myself included ;D

Well a perendale is kind of the jigmaster of sheep produces a decent amount of wool and meat and it can handle being in a swamp for a while.

Will the new 5 to 1 stainless gears be able to take 5 plus 1 washers? I just scored a 500 with an accurate frame and was hoping to do the upgrade [ss gear sleeve etc] over winter.

The gears Alan is working on will only fit 3+1, but Lee's hex adapter provides an awful lot of drag. I can't wait to get a big fish on mine.

Yeah Ron, I can't wait to see also. I have a 112h with a brand new narrow Tib frame kit waiting on the gears from Alan and the insert from Keta. Can't believe I'm about $250.00 into a 112h. Almost bullet proof though. Very exciting stuff going on here. When I finally get all the pieces together I'll post some pics.

Guys,

I have seen few members are looking for this JigMaster 500/ 112H main gear to be able to have 1+5 drag.

Since my resource is working on the 114H gear, I will ask him to make 30 sets of 5:1 ratio and 1+ 5 drag as Bryan Young has asked me before.

Please note that this is a one shot deal. I should be able to do this between $52.00 and $55.00.

Let me know.

The following is the original 3 + 1 drag

The following is the proposal by B.A 5 + 1 drag

Hi alan, I would prefer the 1+5 set. I'll take two of those and one of the standard 1+3 set. Please let me know when and I will send payment.
