Title: Belville issue on a Charter Special
Post by: JasonF on May 07, 2013, 09:22:51 PM
I got around to upgrading a Shimano Charter with frame, carbontex and thick belvilles.  After assembling something was not right.  I could hardly turn the handle when the drag was set at 10# at strike.  I put the original belvilles back in and it works fine.  Any idea why they will not work for me but have worked for others?  Cheers! J

It sounds like your pinion bearing and possibly your left spool bearing is bad.

Not a chance of them being bad.  The reel is almost new and I just serviced when I had it apart and all bearings were good.  If the bearings were bad the reel would not operate smoothly with thin belvilles.

Spacing?  what is the height of the original bellevilles versus the new thicker bellevilles?  Are there any thrust washers or shims that is a part of the original stack, and are you also including it in the thicker washer stack?
