This reel was handed down to me about 20 years ago shortly before my grandfather passed on. it is a belmont model J and the date on the foot is 41 these were apparently were made for sears starting prior to ww2. It is raining and the river is murky so i decided it was a good day to tear this down for something to do. there are no ball bearings to lube just a few bushings, there is no drag, the level wind still level winds, the clicker clicks and the casting brake as you can see is just a piece of plastic or hardened rubber that a cam on a knob pushes against the spool.
