Title: Penn Squall SQL15
Post by: mrbrklyn on August 13, 2013, 05:18:43 AM
Whenever I see the letters SQL I think of Structured Querry Language

so Querry

What do you think of this reel on the strar drag?  I was looking at it today and I thought it spins great.  But I wonder how long the magnets can last for and how does one access the veradrag.  Would this make a decent reel for pulling up something like a 20 lb Tautog?

The SQL15 is a revamped/reskinned 525 Mag and the Mag's have been around for a long time before being changed to the SQL's. Many enternal parts for the SQL line are the same as the 525, check the part numbers of both reels and you will see this. The magnets should last the lifetime of the reel and never need to be changed. I'm a west coast fisherman so I cannot comment on catching Tautog but the reel will fish up to 30lb test/topshots just fine. I own a 525 and like it very much after replacing the stock handle with one for the Torque reels.

I serviced a Squall 12.  It's similar to the 15.
