Title: Calcutta 201B spoolshaft mytsery collar
Post by: exp2000 on September 05, 2013, 05:50:14 PM
See attachment.

Maybe I'm having a blonde moment because it's late?

Just unscrewed the crank handle side spool cap off a Calcutta 201B and there appears to be a locking collar securing the bearing to the spool shaft. Has anyone else encountered this?

And what is the solution for removing the spool assembly?

I have never seen one with a locking collar.  only with a thin metal wire retaining spring.

it just taps out.  that is not a retaining ring.  it's just rusted together.

Thanks Alan.

What appeared to be a retaining ring hiding under the rust was actually a part of the bearing itself.
(Warped perspective due to no shields)

But no way this mess was gonna just tap out.

Required considerable persuasion: irresistible force meets immovable object :)

But ultimately an audible click spelled release.

Shimano's ARB bearings NOT!
