Title: Studio Ocean Mark Blue Heaven L50
Post by: redneck_billcollector on September 20, 2013, 02:42:20 AM
Hello Alan, I have heard alot about your ability with reels.  I have a question about a SOM L50.  I have one that lately the lever drag adjustment knob (for lack of a better term) has been slipping and when I try to re-adjust it at times it causes the drag to bind.  Is there a simple solution to this problem?  To either keep the adjustment knob from slippng or possibly keeping the drag from binding so easily?

G'day rnb and welcome aboard.
Drag 'slippage' could be resulting from a variety of factors.
However, the binding sounds like the standard issue: right side-plate bearing.
If the bearing's toast, a small adjustment under load will simply bind it up...
If you set the drag at strike and thumb the spool to a stop while winding the handle, do you feel any roughness?
Let us know how you get on.
Good luck, Justin

sorry, i have zero confidence in these reels.  you are talking about a full tear down and rebuild to find the problem.  it is likely the result corrosion somewhere, or everywhere, which provides us with zero help.  i'm not even sure what kind of drag washers you will find. if there is a service center, send it back, get it fixed and then sell it with a clear conscience.   :-\
