is this type of alum hard enough for handles? thinking of buying a sheet to make handles. thanks!

Personally,
I don't think any aluminum is tough enough for handles. Stainless is the way to go. Just my two cents. ;)

If you were going to use aluminum to make handles, 7075 would be a good candidate. The only issue with it that I can see is that it is difficult to temper if you don't buy it tempered and if you do then it can be tricky not to impact the temper by machining.

Make them thicker and they should work.
