Hi again,
While doing some upgrades to my reels, I find myself pondering what size of Kolekar grip to use on my reels. Ive revisited the posts on rebuilds and the size of grips used. I find myself on the fence/debating with myself wether to scale the grip to the size of the reel (as I normally do) or going for a larger size grip than I would normally get (as per alot of Alans suggestions). Practically speaking, I find myself leaning more towards the larger sizes for comfort/big fish. Ive read Alan's post on grips which I agree with whole-heartedly. The larger griips remind me of when you see a beautiful road bike with an oversize beach cruiser style seat on it. Please share your EXPERIENCES with specific's on reel model and grip size and APPLICATION.
Thanx again,
Leo
leo i have the smaller grips on my 3/0 and 4/0. now i have to be honest i haven't fished these reels yet but the feeling i get is just uncomfortable when i grab the grip/handle. and i havesmall hands. and after seeing the 2nd gen handles it's on my to buy list now, just waiting for Alan to come back from his trip. hope this helps...
Mel,
Thanx for responding. I have purchased examples of gne 1 and 2 of Alans handles. The larger handle's definitely feel better; but dont seem to scale well with the reels. Like the beautiful road bicycle with the beach cruiser/clunker seat, his butt is comfortable but when he gets off the bicycle you look at the seat and say hummm!

I have 3/0 and 6/0 grips on my reels and they work great, I have used them for lots of saltwater fish. I use the 3/0 on everything from a 113H and below and on the 114H to 12/0 I use the 6/0 handle and it does make fighting a large fish with substantial drag more comfortable.
I bought both the 2/0 and the 4/0 knobs. I put them both on Newell 550 and 540 reels.
I'm about 5'6" tall and my hands are not that big. Yes, the 4/0 was a little more weighty on the reel, but I gotta tell you....you absolutely cannot beat the feel of the 4/0 knob when it comes to comfort and cranking.
The 2/0 knob has an angle cut on one end that kind of made my my little pinky finger squeeze in a little more that the other fingers. It looks nice, but my hands didn't feel too comfortable with that...just my feelings.
But the 4/0 knob without the angle cut...Now that is total comfort. Doesn't look as nice as the one with the angle cut, but man, that is total comfort!
It does depend on the size reel that you are using, but for me...my vote goes to the 4/0 knob. :)
