Title: Lube ports on Jigmasters
Post by: Gulfyakr on October 09, 2013, 05:32:02 AM
I've noticed that the newer Jigmasters have 3 fewer lube ports than the classics. Looks like Penn nixed the ones on the eccentric lever screw, on the handle screw and on the right sideplate over the bridge. Have these come and gone over the years, or were they pared back during a particular year? Anyone know when this occurred and why?

I don't know, but one of my jigmasters with the r/h sideplate made in Oct 2004 has fewer lube ports.  I'm sure it is a cost cutting measure.

How were you able to determine the date of manufacture on your 500, George?

On the inside of the sideplate there is a circle with the numbers 1 thru 12, an arrow pointing to 10 (Oct) and the number 04 in the center of the circle.  I hope I'm correct in thinking that is the manufacture date of the sideplate.  Of course, that doesn't mean the reel was assembled at that time.

Thanks, George. I've just located that stamp on my newest Jigmaster....Feb. 2000. Too bad it isn't quite that simple to date the older Penns.
