Title: level wind jams / sticks
Post by: jcat on October 16, 2013, 01:25:11 AM
Calcutta 250.  When fishing the level wind seemed to stick on the handle side.  When I would reel a clicking sound occurred ( the plastic sprocket, I assume ).  Took the non handle side off and the spool out.  the metal gear that moves the level wind turned and things moved easily.  I put it back together and things worked well for a few revolutions and the level wing jammed against the handle side of the reel again.  I have no idea what is going wrong-----HELP

Firstly, the handle side is the access side to the spool. Suggest that you visually inspect the gear on the worm shaft, and the idle gear inside the set plate. If these are fine then remove the level wind pawl by removing the pawl cap. Sometimes the pawl looks fine, but they only need  have a small amount of wear to need replacing.
