Nice Penn International 6 with box. This reel was manufactured in 1978.

Wow - that's a beauty John.
Thanks for sharing!

John,
That is really clean... With the box and lube on top of that!!
You never fail to amaze me by pulling out the goods. You have quite a collection.
John, those are impossible to find, great job ;).
you amaze me John with your finds.
1200 yards of 6 lb test, eh? Funny. Nice reel, thanks!
Well done John, has it ever been spooled?
wow 2!
Oh my - SCORE!
With braid, 6lb mono = 20lb braid, this little jewel would make a wonderful sailfish reel with little roller guides on a very light and nimble stand-up rod around 7ft.
Congratulations on the find!!!!
"6lb mono = 20lb braid"
I agree. I don't know why someone would put straight 6 pound test on this reel. Strange.

Line class records would be my guess.
Probably, but if using 6 lb line anyways, I would use a smaller reel. Hard to get a reference for size, but that reel looks pretty big for 6 pound test. I wonder how much drag that reel puts out . . . .
Thanks for the comments.
This is a used reel and has been fished, BUT not much. I have a second International 6 that I am considering to set up and fish but I am not sure yet. It is not too unusual to see an International 12 or 20 fished but I have never seen a 6 fished. I suppose a few are still used in some of the tournaments but I really don't know for sure.

Hey bud, very nice reel, sounds like you're looking to sell it. Are you?
(BTW, I'm not interested to buy it, just wondering.)

I guess it would have something to do with capacity, if youve got something big on a reel with 6 lb you're going to let it have some line to run with or your potential record will bust off.
Maybe, but if you're fishing traditional IGFA style on a boat, then you could simply chase the fish.
You're probably right I was guessing because I thought it was a bit odd too .
I think both of us are correct to some extent, but why would someone fish w. 1000 yds of 6 lb test mono? 20 or even 15 would be so much better :-\.
I have caught several 8, 12, and 16lb line class records (YFT, Wahoo, Dolphinfish) and these fish can easily pull 500+yds off under 2-5lbs of drag. Having a larger diameter reel with greater line capacity helps to negate spool diameter affects on drag as the line is payed out. Good smooth, precise drags, a good fully rollered rod, and flawless connections are key components when fishing large pelagics on light line. Boat, and rod/reel handling skills also come into play.
The fish were sounding I take it? Pretty cool having records. Its probably because I dont care about records, but I still just dont get it.
John, that's a very nice reel. I don't know how you find all the great reels you've shared. At least they have a home where they are appreciated! Thanks for sharing. Bob
Thanks Bob. The hunt has been a lot of fun for these special reels.

John are these one of the hardest Penns to find ?
