Hi Guys,
New addition to my collection, 116L mint condition!
As I mentioned briefly in another post, I never thought I would ever see one of the larger Senators physically, let alone own one.
These large Senators are quite rare in the U.K. unlike on your side of the pond (you even have fish to use them on!!)
A chrome spool would have been more desirable, but beggars can't be choosers!
I am that pleased with owning this thing of beauty, I have mounted it on its own plinth!
Before this the largest Senator I had was a 114H.
Mike.

plith explain! :D
Nice Mike! ;)
The 12 is my favorite! I have lost count at 7! ;D
Spooled with straight 130lb mono, it is a force to be reckoned with!
Hi wallacewt, what we call a plinth, is a base or platform on which a statue or structure rests, I thought it deserved its own stand!!
Shark Hunter, like I said these are rare here, you lucky guys even get to use them, this one has never been near the water, and as long as I own it, it never will.
It Is mint outside as well as in, when I took it apart even the grease looked new.
Mike.
Good for you Mike!
Enjoy it Brother! May your 12/0 stand high on its Plinth! ;)
Beautiful reel. Did you pick that one up in the UK mike?
Shark hunter, I enjoy it every day, it sits on the dresser in the dining room, much to the good lady's gloom!! The rest of my modest collection are scattered around the living room, she said these reels of yours are taking over, you need a cabinet, so I said okay I will get rid of those bookshelves and put one there. The reply, 'I MEANT IN THE GARAGE' she is not a fisherwoman!!
I haven't yet told her about the bait caster collection of 22 reels that is hidden in the garage, I will bring them out one by one over time.
I said to her it could be worse, I could collect motorbikes!
Love her dearly!!
Irish Jigger, Yes I found it in the U.K. which I am amazed at.
Mike.
Beautiful reel Mike ;). I see how much it means to you and I would like to help you out.
here is what I have:

The spool is brand new and impossible to find, it does have a small mark, not brassing just a tiny mark. The only problem is to ship it to you it will probably be close to $50, I was going to ask you to send me the aluminum spool so we could swap, but it doesn't make sense, the Postal Service would be making all the money.
Your cost is whatever it will cost me for shipping it to you and don't worry about anything else.
you will also need one of the colored handle, I had a few but can't find them, maybe someone else could help with that, it could be green, red or amber, it doesn't really matter.
Let me know how you feel about this and I will put it in the mail when I get a chance.
Sal
Nice Mike.
What caught my eye is the newspaper that spool is packed in, did you see the prices on new chevys, 66 Chevelle Super Sport Coupe with a radio and heater, 1695.

Wallace "plinth" is one of those words only the British (your ancestors) use. I first learned the word in 1969 when I purchased a Triumph TR-6. In reading the manual I learned that there was a plinth on the dashboard. I had to go to the dictionary to find out what it meant. This is a great learning site we learn everything from fishing tackle to English. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plinth for more descriptions and applications. Dominick

I think I will have to make a smarter plinth!!
Mike.
Wow, Camden, NJ, 1966. Even out here in CA we know Camden is not a nice place. Was it any better back in '66? I assume not!
Sal and Daron - I salute you.
Mike - hope your 12/O brings you years of plinth-based enjoyment ;)
This thread has made my day.
Cheers all, Justin

Thank you Justin, the kind words coming from you mean a lot to me ;). Mike is a good person.
Sal
Yes He is. ;)
Thank You Justin. ;D
Thank you for your kind words guys, I thought I had posted a photo of her in her new livery, perhaps not, it must be my brain getting old, pension time in three weeks :(
Anyway here she is, haven't had time to make a new 'PLINTH' for her yet. (what have I started with this word ;D)
Mike.

That's a plinth-worthy reel if ever I've seen one!

I don't think the plinth is plinthy enough, it needs to be better for that reel
Yes, a more plinthy plinth would look good but don't over plinth it, the reel is the centre of attention.
I agree, just make sure it's not suspended and that it is actually making contact wit the earth . ;) ;D
Mike, I like your plinth, it looks great as is, but might look a little better if you knock the sharp corners off.

the curved shape would compliment the plate and spool.
Nice looking reel my friend, sorry the 16/0 didn't work out, but there will be others.

I agree Sal, this was a five minute job with a bit of scrap I had in the workshop just to get it mounted and placed on the dresser in the dining room. The good lady didn't want a 'lump of metal' plonked on the dresser, I even put thin rubber feet under the plinth to keep her happy, 'lump of metal indeed' no taste at all, she even married me ;D
I have some ideas kicking around in my head, it is just having the time, been too busy.
Took delivery of the superb 501 bars from Alan C. last week, and they are still not fitted on the reel! it will all come together in time.
Ordered the Penn Chronology book from your side of the pond last week, when it arrives, everything will stop until it has been read cover to cover ;)
Mike.

I think the reel dazzles enough, don't want to outshine its beauty!! :)
Looks great! And the generosity around here is mind boggling and it always brings a smile to my face. Looking forward to seeing your new 'Plinth'.
Alan - maybe we need a word of the month category as well...Plinth takes it for January for sure, haha.

Yes I know buddy, at least I will be remembered on the forum for something, even if it is only a bit of wood ;D
PM me your address again and I'll see what I can do about that. ;)
I've never made any for a 10 or 12/0.
