is there a way to convert a 6/0 regular to a wide spool??? i assume that i would need to buy a new spool and a frame , anyone have any idea where i can get my hands on them???
paul, i think i actually have a wide spool and frame. the question is if you really need one or not.
how much more line do u think i could put on the reel?, the main reason was actually because i initially filled the senator up with chinese braid.......i know the crappie crap, and i have 900 yards of it on the reel, its 100 lb line that still has alot of life in it , its just that it breaks at under 100lbs , my knots are solid but the line is not great. it was cheap to buy i realized that i needed better quality, ive been buing discounted tufline xp at a cheap price and ive finally bought enough to spool my whole reel, i cant find/think of a good way to remove back on a spool for me to use on my smaller combos later.(penn no9, 209), so i decided to try to get another spool instead and just switch it out, i dont need the wide spool but i figured the more line capacity i could get the better. and since im going to be switching out my spool i might as well try to upgrade. do you think its going to be cost effective. 1000 yards cost about 30 bucks, cheap as dirt but its still worth the money i guess. i might just buy another regular spool , are there any down sides to the wide spool set up?
wide spools are just heavier. that's really all. sometimes the width makes the reel rock back and forth a little more when you crank, but that's about all. with modern spectras, i do not fish with wide spool reels anymore. they are either boxed out (spools as wide as they are tall) or they are narrow.
