Funny you should say that.. I'm stopping by our local Tatslotto tomorrow with the same wish!  ;D ;D

Wallace, how long have those fads been stewing for?

Sadly, most of the fads placed in our area have either been vandalized/stolen by locals, or run over and destroyed by errant trawlers & longliners.

well we got out yesterday for our run to the fads(4.30am)
more like a walk,
40 minute trip took 2 1/2 hrs
seas were cranky and wishy washy.skipper said and i quote
"these waves have no back on them"
swell was 3m,why do the dummies call em swells.?
anyhow we got 4 mile from the fad and sighted another one
it was a wave buoy that had broken loose,a single bird circling.
30/40m away,"hold it skip",rigged up,james fired the 1st cast,stella+matching rod,short.
wallace fires,4ft,right of buoy,silstar spiral rod,abu baitcaster ld,hookup,
aha 1st blood to senior citizen,its a small ytk,less than 2ft
james cast to the back of my fish, hook up! another small king.
we moved on.
at the fad, jigs, bait, plastics, lures, all were tried, zilch!
just not there.
skipper loads up with big bait, lowers 80/100ft,hook up!
has a tug of war, line breaks at knot
does it again, line breaks at the knot
whats going on
so i load up 60lb black magic leader 20lb line
lower it 30 ft,i wait,no bite,i wind it in to check and im on
i didnt know ,neither did the fish
he just gulp it,and didnt move,he feels the hook and power dives
spool is nearly empty,i put to much drag on him,but he slows
ive got his head up,rod is bent like a horse shoe,1 turn of the handle at a time,
this goes on for 20min;and ive only got 20% of the line back, and he is not fighting
just laying there, what is it?i got no idea and no chance of winning.
i left my makaira at home, ping he wins.
we left the fads and head for rottnest island.
find some scattered skipjack tuna
eric hooks a good tuna, lost him at the boat, hooks pulled
and james hooks a mahi in 10m of water
what are they doing in next to rotto
we head for home.pics to follow

Heya Wallace, Nice report..and I like that jig you're using, it would work well here too!
"Here" is the south eastern coast of Viti Levu, Fiji.... Pacific Harbour to be exact.
Sept/Oct is our best wahoo season, when the water cools down.
When the bite is on, we've even taken 50-60 pounders casting poppers at em!

Reason I ask about the fad, it least here, they won't usually produce any action for 3-6 months until they "bloom".
They need to stew awhile for sea life to attach & grow before they become effective. The longer the better.
It's been a few years since our fisheries dept. has installed any in our neck of the woods. However, I've heard of some guys who have
set their own subsurface ones over the recent years, but the locations are closely guarded secrets  ;)

A guy I know here uses his new radar more for observing & marking other boats' spots than for navigation  ... sneaky bugger.. 8)
He probably knows where a few are.

Cheers!
