Title: New 5/2 Raptor
Post by: Dockside on December 20, 2013, 05:14:09 AM
2 years ago I bought a HX 5/2 for Wahoo fishing.  I like the low gear, should I find a tuna on a jig.

It works just fine, but the side load on the reel @ 18# of drag is noticeable.

The HX 5/2 raptor has the MC and lower low gear (2.4 vs 1.9).  I haven't dialed in the MC yet.

Out of the box, the free spool seemed restricted,  I opened it up and found light grease (and heavy oil?).

Anyway, not good free spool on a naked spool.  I don't care to discuss line weight and spool weight.  It ain't my first rodeo.

I plan to use the Raptor as a 50# hoo/tuna reel.  I think it's a great reel after some fine tuning.

I just picked up a HXJ Raptor primarily for Pacific halibut with 50lb but I will probably use it as a 60lb rig when I go south.
