Title: andros/2 spring loaded dogs
Post by: wallacewt on December 21, 2013, 07:55:37 AM
i have time on my hands at the moment due to the hot weather.after "tiles" upgrade(i needed some inspiration)
to his reel with the traction spring i thought it was time to do the andros.as it turned out it wasnt all that hard.

if you want to use wire like i did you cant use any thing thicker than what i used
because the anchor screw is not long  enough
thats the centre screw in the middle
the 2 springs that are anchored are seperate springs.
if you look closely at the lower dog in the pic(#1) you can see
the hooked wire on the back up against the nipple
pull back on the dog and it loads up.
#2 dog works the same, diff bend thats all.
now heres a helpful tip
put the bends and hooks in your wire 1st
and make the shank of the spring longer than what you need,
up past the anchor screw.
its easier to cut off a bit of the shank, than keep making the bends and hooks
does it work,bloody oath.
when you wind the handle it sounds like a symphany orchestra

when you do the fiddley bit the spring will be under the dog(maybe)
just make a hook and lift it up if you havent a latch needle
i loaded #1 dog first and spring
the 2nd dog was on the table while i did it
push on the ratchet,it locks the dog in position
prise the ratchet up and the 2nd dog  just slides in
make sure spring shanks  are on the correct side of the anchor screw
good luck,its not hard.

The constant pressure exerted by the security springs causes the drag/antireverse plate to become misaligned and touch the drag washer when the reel is in free spool with disastrous consequences for your casting distance.
