All the goodies are in this one. Keta Krank, SS gear sleeve,Hex BP gear...yadda..yadda..yadda. ;)Can't wait to fish it.
Enjoy, Bob
BTW, can anyone find what the external mods are?? Kinda like where's Waldo :D
hi bob reel nice job there, looks great and i'm sure you will have a ball using it. noticed the tea infusers, is that what you wash your parts in, i picked one up awhile ago. last week i purchased a jewlery cleaning basket from ebay, fantastic, all metal, fine screen and it hangs great in my glass wash bowl, nice pics. harryk
Hi Harry, yeah tea balls. I use them in my ultra sonic cleaner for the small parts. I place a standard strainer in the tub of the ultra sonic and then the tea ball/ small parts holder in that. It keeps them suspended rather than sitting on the bottom.
Bob
Ok Bob, now you need to stop, you're making me look bad ;D.
Very nice job buddy, can't wait for you to give it a workout at the canyons and report back ;).
Very creative using two eccentric levers. ...not taking anything away from your masterpiece, but I believe Lee could make you a custom lever with a bend.
Thanks for sharing.
Sal
Lee's to busy boat building right now. Timing is everything with Mr. Keta. :D
BTW Sal, this side cover was made by someone else on this site ;) really like the way the second dog spring fits.
Bob
Bob
That looks really nice and the beefy screws look good too. I already named mine the Beast so you have Beast II. ;D
You will be surprised how strong and smooth that drag is.
Very Nice Bob!
I especially like the bridge screws. I really like that pic of the double dogs.
I have two 114HLW's that are going to get the same treatment, minus the screw mods.
Daron, the screw mods were able to be done "only" because the frame, side plate and rings were drilled and tapped to 10-32 not the original 8-40.
Gotha!
Since Newell Nut is staking claim to the Beast. How about the "Camden Kraken!"
You guys are nuts ;D, just stay away from 'The Tank" mine has a patent ;D.
You know Bob, I had a T-Shirt that said "The Beast from the East", that was about ten years ago, I believe my wife gave it to me.
I don't care what it's called. Just as long as I get to fish it often!
The Garden State Goliath! ;D
I'm going to name mine the "Black Pearl Punisher!" ;)
Nice one Bob!
I just finished a couple half frame 114h's couple weeks ago that were hard to give back to the customer.
I had visions of what you just accomplished on that reel. Nice work!
I especially like the screw mods and that counter set for the bridge screws.
Well done mate!
Thanks guys, none of this is an original thought of mine. Just a tweaking of what is already known. Still did anyone pick up on what is REALLY different with this build ???
Shucks Bob, besides the frame screws, bridge screw, eccentric lever, keta krank, and alan tandle...I'm not seeing it. ???
Is this a test? ;D ;D
The only think that is catching my eyes is that star, where is that from?
The inside rings are gone.
Hint.. Full Penn frame. Usually only 5 screws.
Did you re-align/re-orient the plate so the crank & eccentric are 6 & 12 o'clock position?
Or shall I lay off the hot stuff? ;D
Wait! Could it be that's not an actual Penn frame??
but an altogether different 1 piece frame with a fake Penn sticker??
Bob, how close are you and Alan Chiu & Broadway Dom? ;D ;D
Great job Bob! Definitely a Beast of a reel...
I don't know much about Penn conventional reels, but it looks good.
Rgds
Mark
Ok Bob, Give it up! What the dealio?
Added three screws to each side. On the penn one piece frames, they only use five screws. I didn't like the way that looked sooooo. Drilled and tapped three extra screws on each side to accept a standard side ring. I know, I know. Over kill for sure! Necessary? No. Needed? No. Pain in the ####? Yes! Neat? Yes! One of a kind? Absolutely ;D the spool is also red from my anniversary edition. I don't think I'll fish it that way though. Ill leave my anniversary reel intact on the shelf.
The idea for the screws came from Sal. He mentioned McMaster Carr for screws on a previous thread and I went to their site and saw the shortened head cap screws outta SS. I think they look HD. I relly hate the stock Penn screws. So by tapping out the frame with 10-32's the choices were better. The 10-32 is larger than the standard 8-40's and there are a ton of them out there.
Next on the schedule is to tap out my "Tank" frame to a 6-32 thread size. They are currently a 5-40 which is a bugger to find size.
Thanks for all the input guys. This was a long build, but now I know it can be done. I really want to thank all of the guys that were the impetus to do such things with our reels. Makes the winter go by easier.
Bob
nice tweaks, bob!
Bob: Send her to me, I'll tame the beast for you. :D Dominick
Dominick, I can't wait to use it. Only 7 or 8 months until tuna season :o only 4or five until stripers though. Very excited!

My friend Joe from Bradley Beach and I will be in Cabo sometime in the last 2 weeks of June. Join us for some YFT. Dominick
Man, that sounds like fun! I bet its Hotter than you know what in June down in Cabo.
Dominick, that is a most gracious invitation. Unfortunately I must decline this year. This is a must on my bucket list, right up there with Costa Rica. I'm sure you gentlemen have the Cabo thing wired. I would most likely return a changed man. If your over this way please let me know. I hoping this year my time constraints will be better. Time will tell. Thanks again.

The last 2 weeks in June can get hot but it is usually pretty nice. Cool mornings and evenings and hot during the day. This is just before the July and August doldrums.

I may be over that way in February. Joe and I may go to Puerto Rico in February for some Tarpon fishing. My best Tarpon is 80lbs. I'm looking to beat it. I love fishing in the mangrove swamps. February is mating time for giant iguanas. The males turn several bright colors and hang out over the mangrove canals. It is quite beautiful. I'll PM you when I'll be in NJ. If you want to go to PR I'll figure out the details. Nothing is set yet. If you ever plan a big game fishing trip go for Cabo. Joe and I did the Costa Rico thing but IMHO it is not as good as Cabo. By the way, I'm not rich most of these trips can be had on the cheap. Dominick
"on the cheap" ALWAYS sounds good. I lived in Isla Verde as a kid for 6 yrs. I wasn't much of a fisherman back then, mostly surfing in PR. Let me know when youll be this way in feb. happy holidays to you and yours. Be safe
