Title: 505hs cupped washer
Post by: Clipper on December 23, 2013, 02:39:34 PM
Bought a NIB 505. Worked well out of box, but tore it down to grease etc as I do with all new reels.  After greasing drag stack with Cal's and reassembling, it worked fine except that when star is backed all the way out (ie no drag) spool still turns with some drag, which it didn't do before. My thinking is that the grease takes up some space or that the cupped washer is upside down.

Which way does the cupped washer go?  Or is it something else?

) = Cupped washer

Clipper, you would be correct with the grease displacing some of the drag stack. That all get straightened out on a good fish though ;) ;D

Whenever you have greased drag washers there will be a small amount of drag because everything sicks slightly together.
