Post by: khaledbadry on January 26, 2014, 02:22:36 AM
Greetings Mr Alan,

First I would thank you very much about your article considering drag system upgrade http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=225.0
That article helped me much disassembling my reel, but I have a problem since the first time I disassembled it,
I hear a noise when I move the handle may be come from the gears system didn't hear it before, I tried to put grease on main gear and be sure every thing is ok but it still make noise,
I hope you can help me find what is the wrong with it,
I recorded that noise and attached the file here,
Thank you very much,

Regards,

khaled badry

khaled, welcome!   it sounds like gear noise.  you might have damage to the main and pinion gears.

Mr Alan it cant be damage in gears, I can take pics for it and you will see it looks brand new, also I used my reel just 4 or 5 times at all, that noise happened after the 2nd time I return from fishing trip exactly when I open it the first time. I am really don't know what is wrong !!

if the drags were sticky and you hooked into something big, it might take only one time to damage the gears.  what you have sounds too loud for bad bearings, and the only way the spool would make that much noise is if the spool shaft was bent.  that leaves us with just the gears.   :-\

look very carefully at the gear teeth.  damage can be hard to spot if you've never seen it before.  a camera with good macro lens would help here.  where in the world are you?

I am from Egypt, go fishing in Red sea and Mediterranean Sea, not that big fish, anyway I can order the 2 gears as spare parts and try again   :-\

take a look, first.  it most certainly has to be the gears, but i thing the reel would fish just fine.  this is where a drag upgrade would help.
