Title: TSI ON DRIVE GEARS!??? GOOD OR BAD?
Post by: thedw on February 10, 2014, 12:43:32 PM
hi guys is it advisable to apply TSI on drive or pinion gears?

my worry is that the gears will be too slippery, and thus the reel grease may not stick onto the gear teeth.. causing premature wear...

is my worry founded? or am i just thinking too much?

I'll use either TSI or grease but not both on the same parts.

For star drag reels, I use TSI on the pinion and grease on the main gear.

For lever drag reels, grease only.

Bryan... would you talk me through your thoughts on using grease and TSI in this combination?

I normally just dunk the pinion gear in TSI to allow the best free spool. Nothing scientific.

Please forgive the interruption, but in the interests of my continuing education, what is TSI?   ???
