Title: Stockpiling Reel Parts for Favorite Reels
Post by: Bucktail on February 11, 2014, 09:09:41 PM
As newer model reels come out and older ones are discontinued it generally becomes more and more difficult to find parts for them.  Now of course, having the internet makes finding older parts easier, but some still become scarce or unobtainable.

My question is, what parts would you consider essential to stock up on in order to keep your favorite reel(s) in working order as long as possible?

Lets break it down to 3 types:
1.  Conventional
2.  Baitcast (levelwind)
3.  Spinning

Thanks,
Bob

For a levelwind reel I would get a wormshaft and pawl and their gears, geartrain parts as well as other bits and bobs.

Sounds good Tile.

Would you all agree there's really no reason to stockpile drag washers and bearings?  I'm thinking you could always find something that will fit for both of those.

For a non-levelwind stardrag reel I would get geartrain parts and other small items. Most leverdrag reels are bullet-proof with few exceptions and for them spare bearings are a must.

Same here.. and some drag washers, bearings, etc.

For conventional reels, I say stash some spools for your favorite reel.
