Title: Staying on base
Post by: Ron Jones on March 26, 2014, 05:33:03 AM
OK everyone.
I have offered to help guys out by getting rooms at the ASW base that is around the corner from the boat. The rooms sleep 2 easy and can fit 4. They have a small kitchenette and basic cable, etc. The rooms are just under $60.00 each. I can rent 2 and I can probably get another local Chief to rent 2 more if needed. I'll get the actual price tomorrow.

What I need is a list of anyone who would like to stay on base. That way I can figure out how many rooms we need. I can make the reservation 30 days in advance, the rooms are on a space available basis but I've never missed one if I reserve the room the full 30 days out. I have to give them a card number when I make the reservation but the money isn't taken until the day we check in. As of now I am planning on checking in Fri but can add the second room etc as needed through the weekend. If you need to stay an extra day after the trip we can work that out also.

The way I want to do this is you put your name down here first. Then, the week before the trip you get me the money for the room either by paypal or check. If you are paying by check then I'd appreciate the money check by Wed, 11 June so it can clear my bank before my card gets charged.

Basically that is it, put your name down now and get the money to me the week of 9 June.

If you have any other questions, or need local information or want to know about other places to rent then just ask. I lived on the base from 2008-2011 and can tell you anything you want about anything in walking distance.

OK guys, it is time to book the rooms. I was hoping to do this out of pocket and settle up in SD but we are really scraping every penny to support this vacation so if everyone is willing, I'll get a quote tomorrow and let everyone know what their cut is. Once that's done I guess the best way to pay is a pay pal gift and once I have the funds I'll pay for the rooms. It is important to understand that the sooner I can book the better off we are at getting the rooms.

I'm really sorry it went down like this.

ron, thanks for taking care of this.  i just sent out a group email, so you can use that to re-announce the room situation.  also, i'm certain that guys will understand that you can't book rooms that you don't have funds for.   :-\

So,
Here is the deal. The Gateway right by the base is full. First time it has happened to me. I have made reservations for 2 rooms at the Navy lodge that is about a 15-30 minute drive from the dock. Those rooms have 2 queen beds each, I've stayed there before and it is a nice place. The 2 rooms would work out to $30.00 a piece but it would mean that a couple of us would need to double bunk in a Queen bed. It also means that we would need to figure out transportation to the pier. If you are all still happy with that then let me know and we'll do this. Thankfully, the lodge let me make the reservation without money up front so we're not under the gun for that part.

Thanks
Ron

I have an air mattress...Just need a number to contact you and an address... I'm sure the transportation part will be easy, as I'm traveling alone.

I'm on the fence about driving my truck or the Jeep.  If I bring the truck I can shuttle people to the dock.

Thanks Ron, will contact you prior to that weekend and set up a meeting place. I most likely will take my sons truck instead of my Santa Fe and will be able to haul more gear and an extra person.
