Title: SOA Charter: What do you get?
Post by: Big Tim on June 22, 2014, 01:02:57 AM
What do you get when you take 26 people from all walks of life, different nationalities, different cultures, countries, and financial status & what ever else differences you can think of? Stick them in a tin can on the ocean for 5 days with a crew of people you don't know on top of it? With only a couple of known interests? ... You get OHANA...Family ;D You could not have picked a more diverse selection of human beings to be in one place at the same time no mater how hard you tried and have it come together so well, so respectful, with so much dignity  & respect for each other, and some how Alan T. pulled it off. Somehow I m speechless...And everyone on the SOA trip will tell you that I am not speechless. Thank you Alan...Today I feel very blessed

Schweet Video, I like it without an annoying sountrack.
That looks like pretty good time being had there.

Big Tim,

Thanx for getting these pictures up as soon as you did. I know you guys were tired after getting home so thanx again. Alan, thanx for the video and I finally heard some voices of the people that we communicate with in this virtual "shop" on a regular basis with. Alan I nominate the picture of you with the Accurate spinner as PICTURE OF THE MONTH! Cant wait to see more (especially of ALL the tackle). This should be a fond memory to last a lifetime. IM DEFINITELY LIVING THROUGH YOU GUYS TRIP, since I didnt go. Im glad everyone returned safe and sound. BTW, I couldnt help but notice that some of you were wearing your "Sunday go to meeting" fishing clothes (ie Columbia PFG), If I had gone I would have had mine as well. ;D

MORE PICTURES PLEASE,

Leo

Jimmer had my 40# rig (the captain said use 40/50) so I was fishing 25# and wanted it gaffed quick, it took me to the stern then headed toward the rudders.    I think this was the first fish of the day  (I hooked the first fish that morning on my first bait and 50' from the boat)and the start of a very good morning.  A few of us caught at least 8, more caught 7 and everyone got fish, unfortunately the furballs got several too.

Oh that sucks, I thought Alan left it! As it turned out, I used it's older brother, a Newell YTS with 4:1 Pro Gears and all sorts of stainless stuff from here. Loved it. If anyone thinks a model 27 Monofil built to the hilt with a Tib frae is silly, they haven't caught a YT with one, I loved it.

Ron: You rocked that little reel  ;D But I think my favorite moment of the trip is when you pulled up your boot straps and no matter how bad you were feeling you caught that Ray  ;D ;D ;D That sucker dragging you side to side on the back of the boat was a blast to watch!!! If I remember correctly that reel you used was one you built? You kept trying to hand it off but we all just said no and cheered you on  ;D I am glad we all have someone like you protecting us. That 27 was my way of avoiding an Avet SX...wanted to NOT go with the "herd" and still be "made in the U.S.A." Glad you enjoyed using it! Your YT means that it brought in a total of THREE YT.  ;D  It's a success!

Opened up the right side yesterday and inspected the 13-200 pinion...there was no observable wear from when I installed it. It's ready to go for the 2015 Alan Tani Charter!!!  ;)

Look forward to see the pics from your 27 build.

That last photo is smoked bonita collar, rice and veggies. Bonita is really hard to handle well enough that you can end up with a good product. This fish is still firm and flavorfull, the SOA crew and 5 star did it perfect.

Nice shots Ron, but I don't see the towel from your lovely wife on you :-\.
Please tell her to make me two, one with a Striper and one with a Bluefish. ..no hurry!
Thank Chief.

Sal,
If you look at the first shot of me fighting the Ray it is hanging off of my left side (I'm a South Paw.) We'll add your order in.
Thanks!

Maybe so, but he's in his right mind. ::)

I'm a lefty, too, but I save my right hand for operating the winch. ;D

Sal, the Dorado towel has a much higher cool factor. :D
