Title: Let's see a picture of your workspace...
Post by: steelhead_killer on November 24, 2015, 03:20:17 AM
Since downsizing last year I have been reduced to storage boxes and the dining room table.  Which I may add must be cleaned up after playing.  When I had a space that I could dedicate to working on my reels it was less organized than now given I had to reduce quantities and get everything into two plastic storage boxes.  Chemicals in one, parts and tools in the other.  So lets see your workspace!

We knew how Fred has his parts & things organized. If we don't see the pictures then we won't get jealous of him. Now I won't be able to sleep after seeing his shop. I'm in the same boat as you with the Dining Rm. Table since day one.

I have nothing to show, even though I have a dedicated room, and workbench for my reel business.

Any one ever mention you may have OCD, and be a hoarder Fred  ;)

I have a hobby room in my house. Problem is, its full of other hobbies and you can barely get in the door.
Fred's workshop is what all others Dream to be.
I usually just haul 6 or 7 parts boxes and a big tool box out to the Big Kitchen Table.
Make a few more trips back and forth. Then go to the garage and do some fitting, then back to the table and assemble. Then put it all back.
I have reels in every room of the house. I broke new ground yesterday, and put one on top of the refrigerator. ;D

Joe

i'm with you, Joe. My man cave has a workbench (for firearms), a table (for Mrs Kenmore-my 60 year old sewing machine - another hobby), a small rod building table and my primary catch all table. This past week I removed a dozen files and pliers off the table top and it still looks like a 7.5 tremblor on the Richter scale epicentered  right there. :o

So no pictures...use your imagination.  Just take one wall of Fred's shop and ram it from the back with a semi tractor. That's my room. ;D

Wow great workspace!  Plenty of space, good light and the storage is unreal.  The more space I have the more stuff ends up in it!  :-\  Any others? Come on repeat after me, My name is ____ I am a reelaholic, my passion defines me and showing my workspace is a healthy outlet.  Don't worry there are many others... ;D

Finally got the workshop cleaned up the other day. Still needs help but better!
Fred, your place is amazing. Super well organized and the 2 wood drawer cabinets are awesome. Where did you end up finding them?
Looked at some really nice dental cabinets a while back but the guy wanted $1400.00 for them. NOT!!!!!!
Anyways, the problem here is too much stuff, too little room, and not enough time.

Yes Fred. It is an old Daiwa spinner 8600A. Recently found it in an old fishing box I had and cleaned it all up. Will never use it but it looks good on the wall. Had it since early '70s. Is that time right for that reel?
Title: Re: Let's see a picture of your workspace...
Post by: foakes on November 30, 2015, 02:08:23 AM
Yep, Larry --

IMO, that was the Golden Age for spinners.

The evolution from the 60's had already moved forward, the reels were made of aluminum and metal -- not plastic -- there were some bearings in key areas, and the reels were efficient as well as simple.

They just worked well -- and they still do today.

Daiwa has always been a quality reel -- and the company has stood the test of time -- and is still dedicated to anglers.

Some of them have pot metal gears in later years -- and those are durable, but not as much as bronze, brass or steel gears.

Best,

Fred

Dominick, I was painfully cranking 600 yds of PP and 150 yd topshot onto the Cortez 9/0 in ignorant bliss when i saw this request...now I have difficult questions.....I have a beer fridge and wife has her own in garage. So I'm on the fence about going for therapy or going for more Blue Moon because I discovered I'm out.

Disclaimer: The Miller Lite was left by neighbor. I'll appreciate it next time I need to boil skrimp.

You know you are serious about drinking some beer when you have a Natty Daddy on the Top Shelf! ;D
I took a week Vacation just to get away from work and try to get ready for Christmas and work on a few reels for friends here.
I didn't realize how many boxes I have sitting around with reels in them. All in crown royal bags, labeled with the time of the service and the upgrades.
I went and bought 5 large totes to put them in. 26"x15x7. I wanted a shallow box to spread them out and still see what I have.
They are all full and I still have a couple boxes left.
I'm getting there. ;)

Truely a "man cave". A dark corner of the garage at my wife's house with the work bench my Dad built when I's 2 yrs. old(I really love this work bench). It's got onea those old wooden antique tool boxes from Grandpa and somea his tools. I can't hide there, but it takes people a-while to find me and "out of site, out of mind" works sometimes. Also, the desk where I do detailed stuff.
