Title: Offset handles
Post by: Three se7ens on January 04, 2016, 02:53:01 AM
Ive been working on a new design for the offset handles.  The design I was using on the bigger reels doesnt work as well when scaled down.  So I went with something a that's closer to what most production reels now use.

Like it or dont like it, Id like to hear your thoughts on the design.  I have thought about adding a second hole for the gear sleeve so you could choose between longer or shorter.  Is that something you would like to see?

I like it Adam. How about a full radius on the end instead of being squared off. I think it would blend better. Just an opinion though. My new knobs would look great on that handle.
All the best,  ..  Lou

I like it as well Adam. I'm with Lou on the end, a radius would look better there

The offsets work nice. I have been using the Torium 30 handles since trying one from Ulua Junkies. These handles are balanced perfect for a Newell. They are chromed brass and very sturdy. SS of course is always more appealing.

I updated the design of these, and will be offering them to fit 112H/jigmaster, 113H, and Newell reels initially.  Ill work on fitments for the  6/0 and the daiwa 600h/900h soon.

With the handle set to the short position, its a little shorter than the Sal's Handles, and on the long position its about 5/8" longer.

Ill have these available soon, I need to check on material pricing before I finalize the price.  Im expecting around $21 for the newell and 113H sizes, and $20 for the 112H/jigmaster sizes though.

I do have 7 of the ones in the first picture (with the single position) available for a 113H now.  They are not listed on my website, PM me if you want to order.  Price will be $17 each plus shipping.

It moves the knob closer to the center line of the rod, resulting is less torque on the rod when you are cranking hard.

I have the new style of these with 2 positions cut and polished, I just need to make a new jig to bend them.  Ill have pictures up in a few days, and they will be available by the end of the week. I have them for the 112H/jigmaster, 113H, and Newell reels.  The 114H/115 and daiwa 600h/900h will be coming soon.

Well this sucks.  I started bending handles, and halfway through I realized I mucked up on the drawing.  So I have 6 each of the 113H and Newell handles that will only work on the long position.  Ill offer those in a separate thread at a discounted price.

Ill make a new die tomorrow for bending the rest to the correct size, and I will be sending out invoices per the requests in this thread.  All of what I have available will be ready to ship out on tuesday.

The 112H/jigmaster/etc handles are all good, and Ill have them avialable this weekend as well.

I would be reely happy if it was just polished. I don't have a buffer anymore.

It does not show up very well in pics, but they are semi-polished.  I run all the parts through a deburring media and then a fine finish media in vibratory tumblers, which leaves a very smooth and even finish.  Its not as bright as a buffed, high luster finish though.

It really does not photograph well, but I tried to show it in the attached pic.  The star was buffed to a high luster finish, while the handle is typical of the tumble polishing all of my parts get.

Maybe a few washers to take up the space between the handle and nut?

The supplied allen head lock screw isnt seating fully against the handle?  Is it too tight against the Penn handle nut?  If so, I can send you a new screw with a reduced diameter head that should fit better.

It depends on the knob.  I can make my arms to fit about any knob you want to use, provided you have a way of securing the knob to the arm.  Basically, Ill sell the arms with any size hole you need for the knob.  Securing the knob to the arm is the buyers responsibility.

I apologize about the delay.  Ive had a lot going on lately, and not much time to devote to reel parts.  Most of it is cleared up now, and Ill get my site active again, and be back to getting orders out within a few days.

I just got the blanks for the offset handles on Wednesday, and Ive been busy with the holidays and filling old orders.  Ill send you a PM when your order is ready to ship.

As for the rest, I have about half a dozen of the offset handles for the 113H and 112H/jigmaster available at the moment.  Im working on the ones for the 114H/115 and 116+ as well.  I hope to have those available in another week or two.

Here is one of the 114H offset handles. The handles are 3/16" thick 316l stainless steel.  The blanks come with a coarse mill finish, so the handles are milled to thickness before bending and polishing.

Pricing for the 114H/115 size is $27 each, while the 116+ sizes are $28.

Please note that Pete Kokelar does not make handles for Alan any longer.  He has a couple of other buddies that build these for him now.  Therefore, they are just called Alan Tani's Handles.  ;)

always wondered if Kokelar was kind of a blend of Delrin and another ingredient to make the Kokelar thingy  ::) ::)

Here is the Beef! ;D
Adam, You knocked this one out of the park!
Fit and finish is excellent.
I know it must be a demanding task to put up with our needs, but you will never hear a complaint from me. ;)
I sent you a paypal payment last week for four more of these for the 116 and up. 5/16" handle hole for the best grip on the Planet!
10/0 with some serious crank!
That looks, familiar, and awesome.  ;D Do you catch your index finger between the handle and grip when you crank?

Maybe. ;)

Thank you for clearing up the catching concern.  If your finger won't get caught, I know mine won't.  That is a massive combo.  :P  The handle looks like it's as long as the reel diameter.

On the 10/0 and up its roughly 4.25" from the center of the gear sleeve to the center of the knob on the long setting.  The 6/0 and 9/0 handles are 1/8" shorter.  The short position is 5/8" shorter on each.

These handles are cut from 0.220" thick plate and machined to 0.190"-0.200" thickness prior to bending.

Just to share some info I got from Adam after ordering this handle for my US113N.

Hole centers between the gear sleeve and the handle post are as follows for this size handle:

"2.75" and 3.38"

Thanks
Adam"

With it installed in the 'power' hole that is 3/8" longer than the stock handle o.c. dimensions.

Looking forward to pulling my 5/0 AT handle off of the factory arm and installing it on Adams arm.  I'm hoping for a bit of gain in cranking ease up from the deeps of Davey Jones Locker...

Hi Adam;

I am in need of another 6/0 offset handle.  i really appreciate the extra leverage.

justa question.....does the small, socket head, locking screw on your arm have the same threads (TPI) as the Penn locking screw?  I broke the head off the socket screw while walking it into the threads.  It seems to have a really tight tolerance between the 23-116 nut and the socket head screw provided.  All the same I need another socked head screw for locking your crank arm down along with another 114 arm.

The screws I use are not interchangeable with the original Penn screw. They use #5-40 and I use #4-40.

I'll send you a replacement.

Hi Adam,

i received my SS 114 offset handle/arm yesterday with the extra lock down screws.  Thank you for making this arm!  It is absolutely over the top in every way.  Fitment, beauty and efficiency are all first rate.  I will recommend this arm to every one of my Senator Customers.

It makes all the sense in the world to use a long arm with faster gears and your Keyed Drag Insert. along with a SS gear sleeve and your long forgotten 114H becomes a big fish hauling machine!  I was landing very large Blues and Yellows with a 114H this past summer.  Nobody could believe I was using an ancient one speed Penn.

Here are a few pics of your arm on 2 reels and a comparison with the Penn 24-57 part it replaced.......

It looks like you lined up the original arm with the wrong hole showing an exagerated length difference.                Rudy

Perspective my friend. Qui Bono?  I know it appears ridiculously oversize, that's why I gave the Penn P/N so all the readers could perform their own comparison but here's the simple method.....

Offset stainless
2 for a 6/0  114H   and
2 for a 113HN Baja Special

Thanks, Roy

Hope you and yours are doing well.
