As always, the drag numbers I've mention to Alan are stress test only. I'm impressed with the full package on this one, Bridge-Sleeve and Gears. This reel could take lots of abuse.

Alan, Will you give us a last call before locking down? I could use one (1) additional but only reserved two (2) just to make sure there's enough to go around. If there will be additional runs later on down the road, I could wait until then.
Thank you for making these available.

Hi Mike,

I will give it a last call before locking down of this thread. I believe that 50 sets will be called for by SmoothDarg and Scott's.

About additional production runs, That will be depended on the market demand. I hope you can understand that.

Thanks,

Hi Alan, I previously ordered 4 DD bridges and would like to add (2) more for a total of (6).

These will be on my trolling rods (albacore), and I have no doubt they'll be able to pull a planer board going 6 knots, which is impossible with stock 113H.

Has anyone tested whether the DD bridge will drop into a accurate jigmaster magnum ?

I'm planning on putting these in the jigmaster magnum, if the stock bridge fits, these will fit.

Can't help you there bud, I do not own a magnum and would not want to use anyone else, I've ruined plenty of my own reels with these tests. :-\.

If the stock bridge will work I don't see why this one wouldn't, but you never know.

There is a little setback on this part. The problem Is on both dogs. The factory made a mistake on cutting them too tight. Therefore, we have to order some more SS raw material to make those parts again.

This is just a headache, and I know there are a lot of people waiting for this product to release.

I will try to push them little faster on production.

Sorry for the delay.

Thanks,
Alan C

The latest updated.

The shipment of this part, from Taiwan, is pushing back for 1 week. We found that the dog springs was not strong enough, so we asked our spring factory to make a stronger spring batch in a week. Due to this problem, our shipping date will be around 05/20/2016. If any paid member does not want to wait and would like to have a full refund, please let me know, and I will refund the payment at once.

Sorry for the delay, but it is a right thing to do.

Thanks,
--Alan

Sounds like Santa Claus is onroute.

BTW has anyone tested these in JVariance, Accurate, and the other aftermarket side plates yet?

I didn't order any items directly from you.  I will pick mine up from Brian's Fishing here in Honolulu once I know it will work in my JVARIANCE plate.

Thanks again for making these available!

That's what I suspect, but I have never had them sitting side-by-side.. I will pick one up from Brian, when they arrive, and try it out.  My bet is that it is going to work just fine.

Why wouldn't they?

Usually when an aftermarket parts doesn'the quite fit right.. I would chalk it up to 'clearance ossues'.  I am aware it's nearly impossible to test these parts in every variant of the reel model they were designed for, but inferenceshe can certainly be made.  Like it works in the Accurate plate, so it will work in the JVariance or LeePro, or the old school Penn plates with that were madeven for only right or left hand reels, may not have enough clearance.  Just musing, but I just thought I would ask if there were any known incompatibility issues with these bridges as of yet.

I am sure they will work great, and will likely be compatible  with most, if not all plates.

As for tolerance you are absolutely correct John.
Here is the JVariance plate, this is just the bridge test and nothing else:
(http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/pescatore1/20160516_214707.jpg) (http://s1101.photobucket.com/user/pescatore1/media/20160516_214707.jpg.html)
You probably can't see it, but the sleeve doesn't sit completely centered to the hole. Still, I don't believe it would be an issue.
(http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/pescatore1/20160516_214651.jpg) (http://s1101.photobucket.com/user/pescatore1/media/20160516_214651.jpg.html)
Here is Tom's plate:
(http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/pescatore1/20160516_220332.jpg) (http://s1101.photobucket.com/user/pescatore1/media/20160516_220332.jpg.html)

A perfect fit, just as the Accurate. This tells me Tom's are milled from Accurate, but I might be wrong.
With all of these custom parts, it's always a good practice to set all screws loose and tighten them gradually, plate and frame.

Great Job Sal... a picture (or 3) are worth 1000 words.  Looks like these will work in out just fine, not that I ever really ad any doubts.  I do agree with your assessment that they seem to center best in the Accurate headplates.  Looks like the pinion should still clear fine, and have enough meat on the teeth to engage cleanly on all 3 plates tested, just gauging by eye there.

Thanks for sharing the pictures Sal.

Hi all,

The following picture shows that how the dog springs should install with the dogs.

Are you looking at the right side dog spring that is on the end of the dog instead of in the notch?
Or the way the left dog spring is arched under tension?
With the sleeve, washer and gears in place, everything seems to function fine with no interference anywhere.
Title: Re: 113H SS Double Dogging Bridge
Post by: Alto Mare on May 24, 2016, 01:25:26 AM
Dave, the spring on the longer dog should sit in the notch, but if yours is working and you like it, let it go.
Title: Re: 113H SS Double Dogging Bridge
Post by: David Hall on May 24, 2016, 04:11:34 AM
I moved it into the notch just so it can be comfortable, but it was working either way.
Just so you know, I inspected the inside cut of the accurate magnum jigmaster side plate.  The edges are cut clean and square, radius or eased edges on the bridge will have no effect whatsoever., also the screws stick through the bridge by several threads, this also has no effect, the spool has lots of clearance and nothing is touching.  All the test fitting and work you did to help bring this bridge to us is evident, the screw holes lined up perfectly on the magnum plate, better than stock imho.  The dogs operate flawlessly and engage the sleeve teeth perfectly simultaneously.  It's a work of art.  Thanks Sal and thanks Alan.

I was away over the weekend when my bridge and Lee's lug blanks arrived. I spent a little time installing things last night - the bridge slipped in fine, easier than the Jigmaster bridge of a few months ago, but I had to take a little off the tip of the longer dog, and still need to take a little more off so they will both trip at the same time. I got them closer, but they need just a little more fine tuning. I still need to get an under gear Delrin washer and since my donor was an older open-drag model I need to replace the top hat. Also received the red drag star I ordered, I'm getting close to posting pics of this build....

Didn't put one together yet with Tom's plates and can't really tell how much those screws are protruding. It would probably be a good idea to shorten the ones marked in Red arrow, the ones marked with Green should be fine.
(http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/pescatore1/IMG_0499201_zpszd4ecmpz.jpg) (http://s1101.photobucket.com/user/pescatore1/media/IMG_0499201_zpszd4ecmpz.jpg.html)
The Blue arrow is showing the spring sticking up on the eccentric, it will do ok on the 4/0 as is, but on smaller reels it need to sit flush.
You probably already knew this. :)

I've got the same problem. I bought 4 but have 7 or 8 4/0's, 8 Progear's, and a Jigmaster Magnum. I guess I will start with a Progear 454 YTS, a Progear 545, and 2 4/0 Penn YTS reels and go from there. They will have to wait until after a tuna trip Monday and Tuesday.

Just curious about the make up of these.  I dropped one into a ProGear 545 tonite, but was a little reluctant to take out the big beefy SS stock dog I found inside.  The two on the PC bridge look so tiny in comparison.

This was tested by Sal and stood up to good pressure right?  Not questioning the quality at all, I'm going to be getting more for my Cortez versions too. I have never had a reel blow up on me ever so I'm sure they are up to any test I'd put them thru.

Love that I don't have to do any carving since it just drops in. But they do look small.

A question of theory though;  wouldn't the tank with Sal's SS larger double dogs version actually be stronger?

Don't throw lead weights at me. I really am just curious like I said.

I am going to sell some stuff to buy more PC sleeves and bridges so I do trust Alan's productions.

Thanks, Ran
Title: Re: 113H SS Double Dogging Bridge
Post by: Alto Mare on July 10, 2016, 12:33:29 PM
You have good questions Ran. Yes the dogs on the Tank are stronger, but not because of thickness. Those are stronger because of the way they're held in place.
I've asked about the thickness as well in the beginning, Alan assured me that his men had done lots of tests as well and were comfortable with the design.
You will need to take everything in consideration though, the bridge plate on a stock 113H would flex a little when under stress, especially at the numbers that we're getting lately.
If bad enough, it will interfere the gears, yoke and jack as well.
I personally don't believe the aluminum plates help here, still nice to have though.
Most of the stress comes from the bridge post while cranking the handle.
The new custom heat treated bridge, jack and yoke, being heat treated, should help keeping everything aligned there.

I have done lots of stress tests on these,  but not on the water.
I personally believe the custom bridge and its dogs will hold up just fine.

By the way, I decided to place the new custom bridge on the Tank, we'll see how that goes.

A lot of work goes into some of these custom parts behind the scene.
When I received the custom bridge, the measurements were spot on with the original bridge, they worked nicely on the Penn stock plates, but not so good on Accurate and some other aluminum plates.
Alan C told me and his men, he needed to make them work on all plates.
After one week of taking 3 different reels apart for at least 60 times each, I was able to come up with the solution.
Lee also had his hands on these parts, I told him I wanted one of the holes sealed on the bridge and I needed it back soon within a week. Lee sent it back within two days and couldn't even tell where the hole was.
I carefully drilled and tapped the new hole and everything lined up nicely from there. By the way, the hole was off only by 1/32" and yet causing problems.
Tolerance is very tight on these, this  is a good thing, but at times a little pain to assemble.

Custom parts are usually generated from most of us here.

Along with some others, we have a good product here, I'm sure it will be enjoyed by many in years to come.

Seeing it go into the tank is great.  I really like the way the reel I put the bridge in felt while cranking.

My past on-the-water experience would pale in comparison to Don Dominick's,  so I have 100% confidence that I will not ever damage this bridge.

Thanks for the reply.

Got mine ordered tonight too, along with everything else internal required to build two T4N1 kits.  Couldn't believe I'm completely out of 4/0 donor reels?  I managed to spend a bit more than you did!  Daron Hah! add a couple of Lou's knobs, Ted's Levers, Adams stars, handles and inserts, BP gears and man oh man what a beauty! I can't resist them, it's so much fun collecting all the parts and putting it together.  I gotta invest in a display case these are just to pretty to have boxed up in a cupboard.

Lol, I have to build them first, right now I'm getting ready to assemble a couple stock reels with my grandson.
He's building a good ole 65 and I'm putting a stock 10/0 back together.  The parts are laid out on the workbench just waiting for him to make the time.  He's got school, football and baseball, and Basketball on his agenda along with PS4 so it's a bit of a struggle to get him into the shop without discouraging him.  Word is he's been telling his friends at school about the reel so he is interested, he's just slow to get a round tuit!
Like his grandpa.  Soon as these are done the T4N1's are next up.  Hope to fish mine at the April 1st Morro Bay trip.

Delrin washer. I see all the new kits come with under the main gear washer. Sal was talking about one under the star also.
The only post I've found shows a peel away washer, used for getting correct height. I can't find what i'm looking for even with search
I'm spinning my drag so to speak ;).
Is there a standard or average size anyone is ordering? I'm looking to order a half dozen for jigmaster and 113h.

The bridges that Mystic were selling had been repaired. They welded the screw hole and drilled and tapped them. The problem is the heat treatment in that area is gone. The new ones are going to be correct.

Mike, I just want to make sure I get the correct information from you. this would be for me and the members here.

Did the fixed bridge fail you? Could you post some details?

I tested these afterwards and couldn't report any issues, if you did, it would be helpful hearing about it.

I'm actually the guy that found the misaligned hole on the very first batch a long time ago. Unfortunately, they used the wrong information from that older email...it happens.

I think they did a good job making it right, as far as alignment.

Thanks,

Sal

I didn't really get back the answer to my question to you.
I do not have anything to do with your buying experience, I was simply asking if the bridge..as you have it now...has failed you, as for functionality and not appearance.

About other comments you've put out, that would be something you would need to discuss with the gentlemen that sold those to you.

Mike: With all due respect. In My opinion you should thake that issue up with the seller to give them a chance to make it right. Sal is interested in learning if the bridges were in any way defective as we are on the AT site.

To bring something up that you imply someone misrepresented a part and not give through redemption a chance, well in my book. It's a one way street your living on.

This post is not made to embarrass or disrespect Mike I'm sure he has a right to voice his opinion and he does. This is just my opinion......................Joe

The bridge I have fits the description of what's being described.

This bridge has been removed from the reel repeatedly & tightened down " Tight "  with zero issues.

For any new guys here. The guys that sell stuff here are stand up, take care of things type fellas.

Every one of them best I can tell wants to sell you a good product. They also wish to know of any issues.

Some of these fellas have regular jobs. They just aint making a killing on producing this stuff for us.

I for one choose to be understanding & have patience with all this in mind... Jeff

Hi guys, I'm putting together Alan's bridge and good thing I looked here. Was wondering why it was so hard to turn the handle.

1) Need to sand down the back side of the Smooth Drag SS yoke
2) The Pro Challenger SS eccentric plate leading edges need to be sanded down just a bit too? Please see pic and correct me if I'm wrong about the location (arrows)

Hello Jkel, I'm not sure I follow what you are saying.
I think you are saying that after installing the custom jack and custom yoke the handle was hard to turn?
But after you sanded the jack, as you're showing on your pic everything is fine now?

Just wanted to make sure I got it right.

Thanks,

Sal

Yes after installing the SS jack and SS yoke the handle was hard to turn.

I sanded down the SS yoke a little and the handle did turn a bit better but not by much. I even swapped the SS yoke with the stock brass and it turned slightly better but not by much. It's nowhere near how a stock setup feels.

Then I read that the SS jack leading edges needed to be sanded down a bit too? Haven't done that yet so wanted to verify.

Funny, I'm putting together a custom build and I can't even get the new SS Jack\Yoke to fit in\on the Eccentric It just does not seem to fit.
I cussed till 2am Sunday night and gave up.
I know one side of the yoke is flat and the other not that goes up.

Post by: Fishy247 on February 14, 2019, 07:23:25 PM
Jkel- I installed the same bridge and SS yoke/jack into stock plates and it sounds like I had a similar issue. What I found is that the new bridge has very tight tolerances, whereas the stock plates are very loosey-goosey. Everything can seem to line up without a problem, but when you tighten it up, getting in and out of gear is a chore, as well as cranking. I found that the bridge has to be lined up just so, otherwise, these issues continue. Try making sure that that top edge lines up parallel to the corresponding ridge on the plate. On mine, it sat just below it, maybe 1/32" or so. If it was more than that or if it wasn't parallel, it would bind up. This is what the instructions were talking about when they said to tighten it up a little at a time.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

There are many of these reels out there doing just fine. Check your assembly again.
Sanding down parts as you did wouldn't do anything to the reel, there is already enough clearance there. But if it makes you feel better, why not.
Try tightening the bridge screws a little at a time, this should be done as such on all reels and not just the 113H.

And if it still doesn't, we'll make sure it will. :)

Mike, Sal, I want to thank you for your advice and I'll give it a go this weekend and report back.  ;D

And yes Swami805 I will keep at it until I get it working right!

These reels have parts kits made from 3-4 different vendors, it is expected to do a little minor adjustment here and there.
I have no doubts you will get it, but just in case you don't, you have nothing to worry about.

After making sure everything was properly positioned and tightened down correctly the handle was still hard to turn. Could not think of anything else and then it hit me....'swap out the SD Carbontex kit with Bryan's drag kit'.

Out with the SD kit and in with Bryan's kit. Wow I couldn't believe how much of a difference it made. The handle turned just as smoothly as stock! I did have to file the 'ears' down just a bit on those metal washers to get them to fit properly in the PC main gear. Other than that it's good to go!

Seems like the Smooth Drag Carbontex drag kit doesn't mesh well with the Pro Challenger main gear?? I was using that drag kit with the stock main gear and it worked just fine.

But anyway thanks again to all!  ;D

It sounds like your drag stack was to tall. Sometimes you have to adjust the stack height by using thinner or thicker metal washers. Or it could be incorrect parts above the stack. Maybe if you had just removed the delrin washer from under the main gear & replaced it with the original fiber washer it all might have been fine. When modifing these reels with custom parts a caliper is your friend.           Rudy

That's one tool I don't have and should look into.  :)

You're absolutely correct so now it's time to spool the reel with 60lb mono!  ;D
