Title: Backing Off on Reel Repair for a Little While
Post by: foakes on August 26, 2016, 10:04:11 AM
Due to some family and looming property responsibilities -- I am forced to lay off taking on any more reel repair for possibly 2 to 3 months.

Hopefully, not any longer than that.

All of the repairs, service, and parts requests already accepted and committed to will be completed as soon as possible -- just will not accept any new jobs, for awhile.

Just need to clear the bench of any overdue jobs -- a few of you know about these issues -- but now is the time to get some other life responsibilities completed

Plus, if any established or repeat clients need something -- just let me know -- and I should be able to help out.

For the work and responsibilities that are occuring -- the reel work and helping when possible are good relaxers for me.

Currently, we have approximately 90 large trees down -- that must be cut, split, and stacked into cords for firewood -- for friends and neighbors.  Possibly 100-150 cords.

This is a unprecedented potential fire issue throughout the Sierra Nevada Mountains, due to the 5 year drought, and the pine beetle infestation.

The property needs to be cleaned up and put in shape before first snow -- then we start the burning of slash piles...after snow is on the ground.

Plus, on top of that -- my younger brother just got a diagnoses that has entered stage 4.

He is in Hospice currently.

This has required numerous trips of 12 to 24 hours over to the Coast -- over the last month -- and it appears there will be more trips to help his wife and 4 boys -- with all of the transition and turmoil involved.

All of your understanding as well as your patience -- is greatly appreciated.

Of course, I will still be involved in the website -- it is the best remedy for all that is going on.

Best,

Fred

Fred, I'm very sorry to hear about your brother. We don't know how much time we get here on this planet, and sometimes it doesn't seem fair that one of us lives when another, who seemingly led a better life and helped more people, does not. Those are questions that will likely never be answered, because much of life is random, no matter how meticulously we try to plan our lives to the most minute detail, in the end, most is left to chance.

If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know. I know my way around the Penn conventionals and SS spinners like I know the back of my hand. If you want to send some out to me I'd be happy to help out and help keep reels running through your shop while you are attending to more important issues. I guess it depends on how confident you are that you will be able to recoup all your business when this has passed.

I'd hate to see you lose customers because you had more important life issues to take care of for a few months. Let me know what I can do to help.

Sid

Sometimes we all have to step back and do other things. You are in everyone's thoughts. All the best to you and yours. Anything I can do here on the Atlantic coast, do not hesitate to ask.

Sorry to hear of your troubles.  Take them one day at a time.  Best of luck with everything.

Fred, I was serious about my offer, if I can help and you can put me up for awhile (or ship me reels) I could help you keep the ship afloat while you are attending to more pressing matters. I can fix reels, I can't substitute for you interacting with your brother. I might be able to keep Sue happy while you are away, but we'll gloss over that ::)

Please let me know if i can help. Kidding about Sue, I have no interest, I just want to help you.

Let me know what I may do. A trip to CA for a month could be just what I need for rejuventation. Or are you in Tahoe? Same difference.

Sid

Fred hang in there and do what you must.  Don't worry about my stuff until you return to your work bench.  I can wait months for the parts.  I am willing to help if you can just point me in the right direction.  I will pray for your brother.  I hope he is resting easy.  Dominick

If you need anything let us know. If you can put me up I could come up and help you split wood. I have a reasonably strong back and can assume a weak mind.

Fred, so sorry to hear about your brother. On the other hand I often think how blessed you are to be living up in the mountains, wish I could do the same. As for things being random, who can really say? I believe one day we will be able to ask our creator how things work, and know what this life was all about. You are in my prayers.

Sorry about your brother Fred.
Lost my brother Scott in 1995 and it seems like just yesterday.

I am right across the street if you need anything.
I'll add your brother to my prayer list.
Best,
JT

Just wanted to thank everyone on this site who has responded with sincere offers of help and support.

And also to others -- who have kept our family in their good thoughts and prayers.

This is appreciated far more than you know...

Most times, we find that it is our friends who have the biggest impact on our lives -- as well as the instant readiness to step in with anything needed -- no questions or qualifiers -- just good friends...

This site is made up of good friends --

Down to Fresno this morning -- teaching Sunday School -- there is a crop of kids out there who each need what we can offer in the way of guidance and mentorship.

In this experience we call our mortal existence here on Earth -- we realize that one minute, we can have everything we could possibly wish to attain -- and in the next instant, be on our knees -- perspective and understanding, as well as we can at this moment -- are everything.

All the Best,

Fred

Just saw this.....Hate to hear when a family member gets cancer. Very sorry to hear this Fred.
It is only my belief in a Biblical God of mercy & grace that I can find peace & even begin to make sense out of things in times like these....You will be in my prayers tonight....I mean that sincerely....Jeff
