I would like one 113H drag kit.  Sal says they are the best.

I'm a newbie to this... which main gear will work with the kit?  I understand some need the two "key cuts" on the sides to be extended down to the bottom.

My insert kits work with any of the standard main gears, either Penn original or aftermarket stainless.  They do not require the key cuts to go to the bottom of the gear though, I notch the bottom of the ears on the insert to accommodate.

Here is more info on the various insert drag kits I offer. (http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=11661.msg241685#msg241685)

I have a few 349H kits just about ready to go.  Just need the cf washers, which will be ready on Friday.

Hello Adam, a little while back I asked for a couple of sets of washers for the Dam reel and asked to let me know when they were ready. If you've made some please send them, if you've forgotten about it and need to make more, not a problem...I do not mind being at the bottom of that list, as long as I'm on it :).

I will have a few more 114H insert kits available next week.  The 113H and 112H kits will be ~ 3 weeks out.

The Dam quick washers are cut, but I havent had a chance to put together the kits yet.  That's on my agenda for next week.  I have 25 sets cut, so it should be enough for everyone.

Greets, I have fitted the 113H set to a high speed SS gear set "Pro Challenger".
I needed electricians tape to prevent the SS insert lifting in use and allowing the bottom carbon to pop out the end of the insert.
Also, no heat path from the insert to the ring of the gear.
The featured pic, clearly shews the gap.
Easy to fit and after Cal's grease will pull an easy working 25lbs.  Locked down with my big Aftco star I reckon it will go well over 30lbs.
Quite enough for my rod reel pairing.
The 114H kit is a different matter.
A brass insert that I have driven into my 114H high speed "Pro Challenger set" using a soft blow lead shot filled mallet.
A delicious interference fit and with a proper heat transfer path.
The insert is decidedly thinner so coupled with the fit, a significantly higher proportion of the gear cavity is available for friction materials.
My older pattern 114H has external clutch servicing access.  The stack drops straight in.
These older reels, could hold a taller insert as well, to take another pair.  I believe later models do not have such a luxury.
Pulls an easy 50lbs.  (Stack greased again.)  Another massive Aftco star.  More than my Cousins Classic bottom fishing blank needs.
I am absolutely ecstatic.
I am eagerly awaiting kits for the 970 / 980 of which I use several.
I believe the metal friction washers are Ti.  Could this be part of the secret?
Rgds.

All of the thin metal washers are titanium, while the thick one for the top of the stack is stainless steel.

As for heat transfer, the very little goes through the sides of the gears.  It is primarily through the bottom and top of the drag stack.  There just isnt enough surface area on the sides to have any meaningful effect, whether it is stock drags or my insert kit.

Glad youre enjoying it, Im looking forward to seeing you pulling some fish with it.

I like the aluminum 16/0 118 insert. These drags get very hot if you are fighting a big shark. The aluminum will help with the heat transfer.

Hi Adam, Hoyt here....I am need of a 114 insert and full plate kit, please.  If you have a SS gear sleeve, I need one of those as well.  I could really use a couple larger drag stars to crank down on your drag inserts. The little stock 114 stars are very small when you're talking 40-50-60# drag numbers.  I know the threads are a pain but....Help! Seriously!

Im working on it, but I cant guarantee anything in the next week.

I do have a new source for the drag material lined up, and it is a high quality, made in the USA material from a company that supplies many OEM's.  I will be working on getting all of my insert kits in stock in the coming couple of weeks.

No, the black 114 is a different reel from the red 114H.  I may be able to offer it down the road, but first I need to refill my stock of all the other sizes.

Still working on drag material.  Pretty much everything with my drag kits is on hold until I get to test out the material from a new supplier.  Once I proof the material, I will have all sizes back in stock, and a few new fitments as well.

I havent been entirely happy with the quality of the cf drag material I had been using, but I have high hopes for the material from a new vendor.  A big selling point was that they supply the drag material for a number of OEM's.

I just wanted to make something clear on these kits.  Ive been getting a lot of requests, and hearing a little through the grapevine about these kits.  Here is my current status:

Im running off the last remnants of old stock on all of my insert drag kits.  If I dont have it in stock now(which is barely any of the kits), I wont have any available until I get new cf washers made from the material Im working on sourcing.  Im expecting a sample pack in the next week, and will proceed with a full order after I receive and test the samples.  And then I will get the drag washers cut so I can have all of the sizes of insert drag kits back in stock, along with some new kits.

I know its been a long time, but this will be worth it.  I appreciate your patience.

Sorry to have taken so long.

See if you can find an AFTCO star.
Part of a two part handle and star drag pre-set system, sold definitely in 113H and 114H sizes.
I use the full system on my 113Hs but just the star and a Reel Colors articulating T handle on the 114H.
Star has six, repeat six arms and is 80mm (3 1/4") across.  Really the business.

Tiburon Narrow conversion, Beastmaster ringed rod clamp, Alan's high ratio SS innards and a truly brilliant Motive Fabrication stack.

Wish there was a SS version of this star, readily available.  No style, just honest grunt and controlability.
Wish the Reel Colors handle had ball races.  A minor beef.

If you haven't tried hollow spliceable braid, now is the time.
"Toro Tamer" goes down to 20lbs nominal.

Very best Rgds.
Malcolm Hayward.

This is the same design used in Shimano Stellas utilizing both sides of the drag washer to achieve maximum potential.

Its coming. Ive had a lot going on, but Im trying to get back to maintaining stock of the drag kits.  As for stars and handles, its looking likely Ill just be selling off what stock I still have.  I may make some specific exceptions if the demand is there, but trying to keep up with a full catalog of parts at the moment is just not feasible.

Any chance you had some down time to make more insert kits? I could real use a couple of 113h, 112h and jigmansers

Hi I would like to purchase a complete set-up for a 113H 4/0. If possible I would like to also purchase a set of just the carbon fiber washers for the same 113H 4/0 reel.
Thank you,
Fred

He wasn't been on here selling parts for quite a while.  Check out pro challenger, black pearl in the for sale section on here, his gear set is very nice, same principal, other parts for your 113h too

Not intended to hijack. Special this, special that is the reason why I designed my drag kits with parts that are easily obtainable, such as HT-100s or Carbontex washers. The only thing special, is I use thinner, hardened stainless steel metal drag washers so you can increase the number of friction washers in the drag stack for higher drag numbers.

Yup. Bryan's drag kits perform equally well, easy to find replacements and a great value

I too have been doing more work but most has been frustrating and non productive due to where the machinery came from and no help from the company that sold us the expensive POS.
