Title: 7000i REELS: ONCE THE WARRANTY PERIOD IS DONE: RE BUSHINGS/BRGS:
Post by: Ken_D on July 16, 2011, 06:23:22 PM
Just a small tip regarding removal of corroded bushings, or rusty bearings, if any tool, be it dedicated, or home done, refuses to deal with the culprit, _from the front_.

The Swedish designed 7 had the bearing bosses fully opened on the back. Today's Chinese 7's, have the tiniest of passholes for the spool axle to get into the boss. Not the greatest, if the brg/busing is somehow stuck. Old school was easy: just locate a drift, and tap out the piece from the back. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Not now. Impossible to get any kind of tool to work from the back.  Solution: grab a 6mm/1/4" drill, and bore out the back of the boss, to allow a drift to get to the brg/bushing backside.  As above:  Best to wait until the warranty period is over.
