Title: ADD sealed drag to spinning reel
Post by: BrianThomas on March 16, 2018, 04:50:07 PM
How can i add a sealed drag to a spinning reel - i was in china recently and found a really really nice bait runner type reel - it has a full aluminum body and stainless gears - i looked inside and even th bearings are quality - the only problem is it does not have a sealed drag.

can i add a sealed drag? maybe use an orange i was thinking?

why bother, unless the secondary baitrunner drag is also sealed...  the "weakest link" would determine frequency of maintanance & functional limitations

true - but a huge cause of failure in all spinning reels is drag malfunction caused by a wet front drag while fighting a fish - although carbon drags are much better even wet

really?  always thought it was abrasion from corroded metal discs & salt crystals, from allowing S/W to remain in the reel.  in F/W, my unsealed reels get dunked often enough w/ no ill effects -- merely wet is no problem, as long as there's no sand, dirt, or nasty solutes

Greasing CF seals it.
