Title: Plfueger Arbor Reel 7440X
Post by: Gobi King on October 03, 2018, 06:05:31 PM
I bought this for grandma due the large arbor and 4.3:1 ratio.
Last weekend while salmon fishing I dunked it a few times in the river so I opened it up to clean the drag and replace the washer with CF and some cals and relube the entire reel.

1. CF Drag - to my surprise the reel already had a cf drag in it, very nice, I cleaned it and reapplied some cals
2. the main gear was kinda bare so I put in some penn blue all around and added some TSI to the bearings and buttoned it up. it feels better.

I bought 4 of the 7430's for bass fishing, 2 for 8-pound fluoro and 2 for 6-pound fluoro. All of them had CF drag washers installed, but they were dry.  Cal's purple grease was applied and they've been working great. Drag is very smooth - brought a 12-pound catfish to the net on a 6# rig with no issues.

THANK YOU!!!   ...for weird different reasons:
very happy to learn yet another brand that uses THAT SPECIFIC DRAG KNOB
have old Okuma that look identical & a plasticky PRC Abu version
that lets me swap in parts to accommodate a taller drag stack
hopefully the Pflueger knob offers yet another height option
