I ordered an accurate tern 500 and having owned an accurate before I learned that it will need some pre service before I take it out and fish with it. After looking at the photos of the reels guts on accurates website it looks alot like a newell. What kind of preservice procedure would you guys recommend so I can have the maximum corrosion protection for my reel? I have some teflon marine grease I was thinking of coating the inside with. Minus the bearings (corrosion x) and drags (cals). Would this be bad to use in a star drag because it would somehow affect the engage of the pinion? Would it make the internals too sticky? Ive done this to my lever drag but I am just unsure of how it will affect the numerous parts of a star drag clutch system.

Not certain with the new Tern, but I believe Accurate does the protective treatment at the factory using Cal's grease.

There are no service procedures yet for the tern. I understand their lever drags but their new star drag is very different inside.
I also checked the newell section since i found out its very similar to a newell internally but Alan didn't apply any type of grease to the clutch plate or areas connected to it except for the drag stack. http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=24.0
Thats why i came here to ask. Would it affect the mechanics of the whole system moving properly? I had a similar issue in my calcutta TE series which i used in the saltwater. I tried to coat the sideplates and internal parts(minus the plastic gears/parts) with grease and it caused a sticky clutch engagement issue. Im just wondering if any of the newell guys have this problem?

I still fish with several Newells and use a marine grease with no issues, if your grease is gummy maybe thin it a little. That said a Tern might be different but I don't know why it would be. I assume it comes greased, maybe have a look and if the grease looks adequate leave it be.
I read some where about a quirk in the way it goes into gear from free spool, don't remember exactly what. You notice anything?
