Title: grouper jigging in Florida
Post by: ksong on December 25, 2018, 03:19:17 AM
I fished grouper with Capt Carlos Bastos out of Holiday ( close to Tarpon Spring), Fl today.
Like tuna, grouper don't bite jigs all the time.  But fortunately they were in biting mood today.
I used very light 6'8" Black Hole Charter Special Slow Pitch rod and IRT 600 DD with my reliable Super Sardine jigs.
I used 90 lb leader on close to 30 lb drag.
The 6'8" Charter Special Slow Pitch rod are so light and thin that they are good for scup, fluke, tog or cod too.

Red snappers were so thick and we had to move around not to catch red snapper.
I even got 24" mangrove snapper on a jig. They usually don't hit jig.
It was very enjoyable trip with good friends in fine weather.

Nice job, I don't think you could have found any calmer conditions, especially this time of year.
