Title: Old Okuma Salina SA-55S High Speed and Vsystem
Post by: Marko on October 07, 2011, 05:03:57 AM
hello Guys,

i just wondering. i Have an old Okuma Salina SA-55S (high speed) and now it's have broke down.

after opening the reel, i found out that my drive gear was broken and need to be changed.

i have using Google and goes to many places(include mikereelrepair.com) but all that they saying my options was to convert the gearing system to low speed salina as the spare parts was very rare.

other reel that i have was the Okuma Vsystem V55. this reel already many many times have  a broken handle (on series 55 the Vsystem was folding type Handle, just like the D.A.M reel) and i got frustrated and push the Okuma in Indonesia to change the handle to Salina 55 Handle.

they change it, less trouble but after some fishing another issue has come up.. as there are difference on body width of the reel (saline body was narrower). so, the new trouble was the power handle type salina was pressing the drive gear, making the drive gear shortened and finally- some area of the Drive Gear was pushing againts the gear (the diameter is getting bigger as it pressed by the power handle).
this makes me must regularly change the drive gear include the bearings.

ANyone has the same problem and found solution for The Vsystem?

Many Thanks

marko, it's tough when you start mixing parts from different reels.  spinners are particularly difficult because there are so many model changes.  it may be time to retire the older reel and get something newer (and cheaper).........

Hi Mr. Alan Tani,

thank for the answer. after doing serious search on the search engine- i push my luck contact the Okuma Taiwan. i let them know the issue and they reply me in no time. suddenly after giving my adress they sent me the parts i needed!

i think for any brand when you're local dealer is closed/ parts none available the best option is to contact the manufacturer / HQ of the brand.

i'm satisfied person now. that Salina reel has make 2 giant snakehead gave up...  ;D .

as You're advice- i'll take that advice seriously. i will make better choice for spinning reels that would stand my full abuse fishing style.. anyway i also start using the Baitcast reel. so.. the spinning reel will be less used from now... ;)
