Title: Heddons--line capacity and weights
Post by: festus on May 03, 2019, 11:45:46 PM
Here is info I've gathered on Heddons to anyone is interested.  I don't have Excel on my computer or I could've numbered them in order.

284, heavy salt, 200 yd 20 lb, 18 oz
283, heavy fresh, 200 yd 15 lb, 16 oz
248 200 yd 10 lb, 13 oz
277, 200 yd 15 lb 18 oz
233 200 yd 6 lb 8 oz
282, freshwater, 200 yd 8 lb 13-1/2 oz
281, light, 100 yd 6 lb 9 oz
212, heavy fresh, 200 yd 15 lb, 15 oz
238, 200 yd 6 lb, 10 oz
222 200 yd 8 lb, 12 oz
205, 200 yd 8 lb, 12.5 oz
230, 200 yd 10 lb, 12.5 oz
215 175 yd 175 6 lb, 6 oz
204, 80 yd 6 lb, 7 oz
266, salt, 200 yd 25 lb, 18 oz
236, 200 yd 6 lb, 7 oz
251 (don't know capacity or weight of reel, but it's large and intended for salmon, lake trout, and muskie)

There are several more of their spinners out there, feel free to add info if you have it.

Not enough info out there to really find out, maybe some of the other members may know.

Adding to festus list:

Spinmatic 280, line from 4 to 12 lb. test.
Spinmatic 290,line from 8 to 15 lb. test.
Spinmatic 295, line from 12 to 25 lb. test.
Heddon 246, line from 6 to 12 lb. test.  Ditto the 220-R.
Heddon 270-R, line from 12 to 25 lb. test.

The 251 is a large reel, taking lines from 12 to 25 lb. test.

I have heard about another Heddon 295 (not the Spinmatic) with a skirted spool and "Internal Automatic Bail Release", but wonder if it was mis-described?  Maybe somebody knows something.

They sold a few skirted models in the mid/late '70s just prior to ending their spinning reel sales. They sold a 290, 291, 293, 294 & 295. They also sold a couple of brown non-skirted models, 225 & 226, about the same time.

Thanks, Tommy, for the info & picture.  I suppose 292 was an unlucky number for Heddon.

That's the series that Kevin (The Fishing Hobby) posted in his video today, the 290.  Cool little reels.
