don't know for sure.  we will find out later.  the 2019 trip is $2410, but that is for two guys per panga, not three.  it includes air fare fro tijuana to cedros and back, and fish processing. we are limited to 35 to 50 pounds of fish each on the return flight.  the plane can only hold so much.  we have to get from home to san diego and back on our own.

Alan, like I said in the other thread change the location to Mag Bay and I'm down

I get that a lot of people don't get to experience the type of fishing Cedros offers, but Mag Bay is a whole different can of worms. True Long Range stuff with wahoo, marlin, sailfish, maybe tuna, grouper and miles of mangroves full of snook and bones if one wants to stay inside of if the weather says they should.

There is time to look at something like this, but not a lot of outfitters and places to stay in that time frame. So one must book way sooner than say fishing Cedros.

I like the chance of catching 30-50 lb wahoo over 7-10 lb bass and 20-30 yt any day.

I know you are busy now but just give it a little thought and research before you look at another Cedros trip.

Hello!

Looks like you are heading to Cedros Island for a fabulous fishing adventure!

All of us at Cedros Sportfishing are excited that you will be fishing with us in the 2020 Season!

Over the past three seasons, we have made many changes and improvements, not only to the lodge, but to the entire Cedros Sportfishing experience.  Just to touch on a few...

Our Direct Flight through the CBX in Otay Mesa, CA has to be the most popular and includes a concierge service through the airport.

The new Fish Processing facility with table ready fillets and commercially vacuum packed bags is also a huge hit.

We have also installed a Pelican Water Purification System in all buildings at the lodge.

We have knowledgeable local panga captains with world class fishing and so much more!

At this time your $500 deposit is due.  A check or Venmo (Cedros Sportfishing) is the preferred method of payment.  Please make your check payable to:
Cedros Sportfishing and mail it to:
5663 Balboa Avenue #493
San Diego, CA 92111

The cost of this years trip is $2,569.

We will also take cash or credit card payments, just be mindful that there will be a 3.5% convenience fee for credit card payments.  Please contact Rosie Flowers at 619-772-7570 for these types of payments.

All reservations that are in the books at this time, require a $500 deposit. We will hold your reservation until November 15th, 2019 without a deposit and any reservation without a deposit, will be opened to others on November 16th, 2019.

On a final note, we highly recommend trip insurance.  Life happens. Mother Nature happens.  If for some reason you need to cancel and I am unable to fill your spot, there will not be a refund. I have been buying my insurance through Dawson & Associates for years.  They are very easy to work with and keep them in mind for all your trips, fishing, cruises, Hawaii, Europe, whatever.  They can cover you.  So, once again, we HIGHLY recommend you purchase travel insurance for your upcoming trip. To receive a quote please call Dawson & Associates Insurance @ 619-460-5615 or go to their website www.safariglobaltravel.com.  Ask for Bob or Kristi and please tell them that Rosie from Cedros Sportfishing sent you!

I just found a new Lexa WN-400H for $144 for next year's trip. I hope this makes me a little better at tossing surface iron than I am with my Penn spinning reels. I plan on pairing it with my Okuma PCH-C-801H rod.

Well, hopefully the YT bite next year is so good that we will be too busy bringing in bait-caught fish that we won't need to wear out our arms slinging iron. But the new reel is just in case.

That combo should work fine at Cedros.  I've caught a lot of YT with my original Lexa 400hs-p.  The Winn edition is the original version with cosmetic updates. The Canook (Todd/Hardy Boy) was using my Lexa HD 400hs-p last year while I was using the TranX 500 hg.

I found this out, dipped my fly reel in the water in total darkness at 2 am waist high in water casting for salmon in upper Michigan.
Hit a 20lber chinook and all I could hear was rat tat tat tat tat of my knuckles being waken up, the drag was non-existent with water in it.

Not sure if a mooching reel it be any worse than a centerpin I was holding (pin cuz I had no drag at all)

So a few weeks ago I got the nod from Alan that a spot was mine if I wanted it.  I mailed in my deposit, then the quarantine stuff hit the same week and a lot a preoccupation with other things happened.  But now I have finally started working on my gear and prepping for the trip.  First order of business for me it is to get some casting practice.  I've been working on my salt water gear for a few years now, hit a trip for rock fish in central Cali with Alan and the guys a couple years ago and have spent the remainder preparing for a trip like this. I'm going to use the gear I already own, which may not be a perfect fit, but I'm gonna work with it.  The old saying of "beware the guy with only one gun, for he may know how to use it", I'll try to get good with what I have.

The plan is to cast for at least 30 minutes per session with different setups and rigs, two sessions per week. The pg 255 on a 7'6" rod with 50lb braid works very well for me, easy and consistent to cast with various lures.  The pg cs500 is a close second, set up on a matching rod but with different 50lb braid.  I am also working with a 9' jig stick and the pro challenger jiggy i built with parts from the forum members.  It casts well, but ease of casting and distance wise, it's currently not adding either to the equation.
Title: Re: Cedros Sportfishing, August 31 to September 4, 2020
Post by: Ron Jones on April 28, 2020, 11:57:48 PM
You could do worse than those three setups. Looking forward to meeting you.
I recommend working on casting consistency. 30 or so yards with no birds nest over and over is way better than 50+ yards with a bird's nest every other cast. Just take it easy and fix one thing at a time.

If you can, cast different weights and cast them into and with the wind. The more you cast and get smooth the more fun you'll have at Cedros.

Ron,
Thanks for the advice, I agree about the consistency thing, especially with the differing conditions we will face on the water that I cannot duplicater here in the AZ desert. I'll make the conditions as tough as I can here.
Looking forward to meeting the whole crew.

Looking forward to meeting you at the airport on our way south, Rich. You might want to bring the two 50lb setups for the yellowtail, and a third lighter setup for the calicos, sheephead, bonito, etc. Maybe just bring some 20-25lb leader for the Jigmaster for when the yellows aren't biting.

Well guys I had to pull the pin and cancel. Too much stuff up in the air with quarantine for 14 days when I return, plus there may be issues with me crossing the Mex/USA border at CBX being a Canadian. Rosie was not sure how or if that would work as its a land crossing and I'm not from either country. Talking to Rosie I also learned that the trips have been cancelled so far this year because the runway at Cedros needs to be repaired. She said they have been talking about it for months, so far nothing has been done and no plan is in place and no work has started. .......................... Well there is always next time ! :'(

i have asked that rosie send checks back to everyone.

QuoteHello My Friends,

I am devastated to inform you that your upcoming fishing trip has been cancel.  Ugh...

There was a meeting yesterday in Ensenada regarding the repairs needed to the runway on Cedros Island, and all the "powers that be" were in attendance.  A week before this meeting, the Mexican Government had approved a budget which included businesses on the island pitching in...well, long story short, we don't have a timeframe as to when the repairs will start...or when they will be finished, but the next meeting is September 12th.  Obviously, this means repairs probably will not start until the end of September.

With that being said, please let me know if you would like to rollover your deposit to the 2021 season or if you would like a refund.  All rollover deposits will not only hold your spot, but will hold the 2020 pricing.  (We are not sure if the pricing will be different in 2021, not sure if our vendors will increase our cost..airlines, concierge service, etc.)

We appreciate each and everyone of you for being apart of our Cedros Sportfishing Family.  Thank you so much for hanging in there with us.

Stay Well!

Darn!!!!! I'm supposed to be sitting in the ATL airport about now ready to board my flight to SD/CBX/Cedros. And the Vagabond and Miguel's. I even miss you turkeys!
At least we can't blame this cancellation on Covid. I'm having deep sea fishing withdrawal. I've only been out ONCE this year. And that was only a day trip in the GoM out of Mexico Beach, FL.
Oh well, the SoA is only a month away. Maybe I can survive until then. I had to cancel my SoA trip last year because my stepson had the bright idea of scheduling his wedding in the middle of my fishing trip. They didn't waste any time on the honeymoon either; they just had a baby boy two weeks ago.
I'm not missing this trip. Even if I die between now and then, I want to be cremated and you can scatter my ashes at Alijos. And I'll probably vote Democrat.  ;D

A wedding is a better excuse than a major infection though Mike.  The smoke and a big order at work has been keeping me off the water this year.

At least the "big order at work" is a good thing. The fires and smoke, not so much. Stay safe my friend. We'll wet a line together soon (I hope).
