Title: Torium 30hg - 20hg ?
Post by: SushiKing on August 14, 2019, 08:55:13 PM
Can anybody tell me if you can change a Torium 30hg to a 20hg by changing frame and spool and using other 30hg parts?

Same side plate,  so yes, but the cost might be prohibitive.

Absolutely, I bought a bucket of reels from a charter captain once and the Toriums were all mixed up. 16, 20, and 30 sideplates are all the same. As far as I can tell all you need to swap is the frame and spool.

You're getting the same responses as on BD. The only difference between the 16/20/30 is the width of the frame/spool. Unless you have some compelling need for both a 20 & 30 but would only one of them on a trip, sell the 30 and get the 20. I have a Pro Gear 255 and a frame/spool for a 251. I can move the sideplate between them in about 10 seconds... but I've never done it.

Thanks for the reply's I don't like 30hg width so looks like changing to a 20hg is good and save $ not buying a new reel.

What are the chances you have a spare side plate for a 20?
