Title: PRECISIONBILT MARQUETTE MAR-100
Post by: mark Hill on August 30, 2019, 03:02:02 AM
Any schematics (or good internal pictures) out there for one of these old PRECISIONBILT MARQUETTE MAR-100's? >>> Silly question time...I don't know if there is something missing or how that gear setup works. When cranking the handle it feels like the gear is slipping or not quite engaging. Is the little brass cog supposed to touch the inside of the gear? When rotating the spool by hand it will spin the reel and level wind, but the handle stay still. I only bought this reel because it's cool looking... see thru wine colored Bakelite.  And now, I want to get it working condition so I can catch a fish on it! ;D

That's an interesting looking reel, translucent wine colored side plates? Wow. Hope you'll give us the tour.

No luck in the ORCA library, bit of info on ORCA reel makers page, reel talk has 4 short posts with some limited info, found an ad on the internet, no luck on schematics at all the usual spots.

Maybe if you post more pics of the internals showing how they were assembled and describe operation we can provide some guidance.

Yeah, need more photos.

Is the part that looks like a gear sleeve actually two pieces screwed together?  Can they be screwed together with the wide flat piece turned upside-down?  There are half-circle protrusions that look like they should engage the scalloped edge inside the main gear.

It's direct drive with no clutch, drag or anti-reverse.  Right?

I get the general impression, not entirely either unfounded or well founded, that this reel might have an eccentric bushing on the gear sleeve that when rotated pushes the swinging arm up and into engagement with the scalloped nooks in the gear in order to drive the gear forth. Rotating the handle backwards would allow the swinging arm down and thusly = freespool. Said eccentric + swinging arm thing would rely on friction for action, like by way of a nut on the end of the gear sleeve and that one of those collars on the gear sleeve is sorta springy in character.

Does that make any sense at all, or am I way out there?

EDIT & AFTERTHOUGHT:

Meh, scratch the eccentric bushing part... that is what the second washer with the ear does-- pushes the eccentric swing arm. Thing is though, in my little head it makes the reel left-handed.
