Title: TAKING ORDERS FOR FEBRUARY '21 N220XN TIBURON EXTRA NARROW NEWELL 200 SERIES KIT
Post by: Vintage Offshore Tackle on September 11, 2019, 07:00:08 PM
UPDATED 12.13.20: We have ordered a new run of the N220XN extra narrow kits for the Newell 200 series and they should be ready late January or early February.  We still have 15 kits that are unspoken for, so if anyone wants one, please let me know and I will put you on the list.  If you have already ordered, we would appreciate it if you would please post here or send us a PM to confirm your order.  If we have done business before, no payment will be required until the kits are ready.  If we have not done business before, a $20 deposit will be requested.

The kits are available in red, silver and black.  They are $129 plus $5.95 for shipping to anywhere in the USA by USPS First Class Parcel with tracking

The N220XN is an extra narrow (1 1/4" wide) frame and spool kit that fits any 200 series Newell except the Blackie. The frame width is 3/8" narrower than the 220, 7/8" narrower than the 229 and more 1 3/16" narrower than the 235.

These kits do not come with the standard Tiburon rod clamps because the bulge in the bottom of the 200 series right side plate is in the way.  Tiburon has made up a few custom rod clamp kits for deckhand style rods based upon their Accurate Valiant clamp kits.  They are pricey at $50, but they are quite a piece of work as you can see in the photos below.

If you would like to order, please post here or send us a PM.

Thank you!

Title: TIBURON N220XN EXTRA NARROW KITS FOR 200 SERIES NEWELLS ARE A GO! 15 KITS LEFT
Post by: Vintage Offshore Tackle on October 11, 2019, 03:37:53 AM
The new Tiburon N220XN is an extra narrow (1 1/4" wide) frame/spool/rod clamp kit for the Newell 200 series.  We just placed the order with Tiburon today and have been given an ETA of 12/15/19, which would allow us to deliver them before Christmas if they arrive on schedule.

After subtracting the orders that we have already taken, there are 15 kits still available.  The frame width is 3/8" narrower than the 220, 7/8" narrower than the 229 and more 1 3/16" narrower than the 235.  Tiburon has designed special offset rod clamp brackets that provide a space of 1 5/16" to allow for mounting on most deckhand style rods except for those having an extremely large butt diameter.

If you would like to order any kits, please post your order here or send me a PM.  If you already placed your order on our original exploratory post, you don't need to do it again here.

The kits are $129 plus $5.53 for shipping to anywhere in the USA by USPS first class parcel with tracking, and will fit any 200 series Newell reel.  The photos below are of the extra narrow kits that we ran for the Newell 300 series, just to give you an idea of what they would look like.

Thank you,

Randy

Thank you,

Randy

Tom, we have requests for all 50 kits, but a few people are undoubtedly going to flake out, so you would be first in line for one of those kits.  If that's OK with you, please PM or email me your shipping address and the email address for your PayPal account and we will send you a PayPal invoice as soon as the kits are ready to be picked up.  Tiburon has given us a estimated delivery date of Mid-December.

Thank you,

Title: TIBURON N220XN KITS READY TO PICK UP 12/19. ROD CLAMP PROBLEM. PLEASE READ
Post by: Vintage Offshore Tackle on December 16, 2019, 12:45:50 AM
I have good news and bad news from Tiburon regarding the new N220XN extra narrow kits for the Newell 200 series reels.  The good news is that Tiburon has notified me that they will have the N220XN extra narrow ready on Thursday December 19 and I will be going down to Orange County on Thursday to pick them up.  I will ship as many as possible on Saturday and the rest of Monday.

The bad news is that there is no room for the extended rod clamp bracket on these kits because the bulge at the bottom of the 200 series right side plate is in the way, so these kits will not be usable on a deckhand style rods unless you use an aftermarket rod clamp kit.  One bit of good news there for those of you who are using rods with reel seats (as opposed to deckhand style rods with not reel seat) who do not need rod clamps, the price will be reduced by $9 to $120.  One other bit of good news is that without the rod clamp brackets, for those of you who like to palm the reel or like to keep your left hand in close, you won't have to worry about the discomfort of rubbing your hand or wrist on the rod clamp.

For those who fish deckhand style, there are two options.  One is to cancel your order with my apology for the mistake, and if you have sent any money already, receive a full and immediate refund, no hard feelings.  A second option is that Tiburon has offered to produce a modified version of their Accurate rod clamp kit (TCU-Accurate) if I buy 15 sets which will allow the N220XN (and the P21XN Jigmaster and N322XN Newell and P16XN Squidder kits to work on all but the extremely large diameter deckhand style rods.  Unfortunately, these kits are pricey.  Tiburon charges $53 for the Accurate kit and they will sell N22OXN version to me for $35.  If anyone would like one, I will sell them at my cost.  They would be ready in early January.

If you have a kit on order, please let me know if you would like to cancel it due to the lack of an inexpensive rod clamp kit.  If you are OK with your N220XNs without the rod clamp kit, they are $120 plus $5.53 for shipping to anywhere in the USA by USPS first class parcel with tracking, and I would appreciate it if you would please send payment to our PayPal account at rosygirl900@aol.com.  If you need me to send you a PayPal or Square.com invoice, or if you would like to send a check or money order and need my address, please PM me and I will take care of it.

Thank you,

Randy
PS: Here is a look at the difference in width between the 1 5/8" wide standard 220 and the 1 1/4"wide N220XN.  It is actually a P16XN kit but it is the same size and just for comparison.  All of the N220XN kits are black.

Title: Ready to ship N220XN kits. If you ordered one, please send money.
Post by: Vintage Offshore Tackle on December 23, 2019, 10:25:34 PM
We picked up the new N220XN kits for the Newell 200 series at Tiburon on Thursday and are ready to ship.  If you ordered one, please send payment asap to our PayPal account at Rosygirl900@aol.com.  If you would like us to send you a PayPal invoice, please send a PM with the email account with your PayPal email address.  If you would prefer to pay with a check or money order or by Zelle or Square, please send us a PM and we will send you the info. If you would like yours shipped before this weekend, please send payment tonight as we are not going to be able to ship after tomorrow morning until the weekend.

Please also see our previous post regarding the lack of rod clamp kits for these kits, and the price reduction to $120.  If you do not want the kit without the rod clamp, and do not want to buy the special TCU-Accurate rod clamp kit, please let us know and we will cancel your order.

All of the kits are currently spoken for, but if did not order one and would like one, please let us know and we will add your name to the list.  Usually there are a few kits that are not paid for within a reasonable time (2 weeks?) and those become available.

Thank you,

Randy

Steve

Steve, the side to side spool spacing on Newells can be inconsistent.  In most cases, it can be fine tuned by adjusting the bearing cups (except for the C series and some S and no letter reels that have the non adjustable right side bearings and the self-destructing plastic caps on the left side), but sometimes that doesn't work, so the nylon washer can be placed inside the bearing cup under the bearing to move the spool into proper alignment.

Thanks again, and Happy New Year,

Randy

Title: HERE WE GO AGAIN: TIBURON N220XN EXTRA NARROW KITS FOR 200 SERIES NEWELLS
Post by: Vintage Offshore Tackle on February 19, 2020, 07:38:25 AM
The Tiburon N220XN is an extra narrow (1 1/4" wide) frame/spool/rod clamp kit for the Newell 200 series. Our first run sold out quickly and quite a few people have asked for them since then, so we are running them again for delivery in early April.

The frame width is 3/8" narrower than the 220, 7/8" narrower than the 229 and more 1 3/16" narrower than the 235. These kits do not come with the standard Tiburon rod clamps because the bulge in the bottom of the 200 series right side plate is in the way, but we have 12 custom rod clamp kits that Tiburon made for this kit in case any of you would like to use them on a deckhand style rod. They are pricey, but they are quite a piece of work. If you are interested in the rod clamp kit., please let me know and I will send you a photo.

If you would like to order any kits, please post your order here or send us a PM. The kits are available in any color that you would like so long as you would like black. They are $120 plus $5.70 for shipping to anywhere in the USA by USPS first class parcel with tracking, and will fit any 200 series Newell reel except that there may be a problem with the Blackie series, as I have been told that the hole pattern is different than the later models I am not sure that this is true and I do not have a 200 series Blackie here to compare. The photos are courtesy of Franky Garcia. The last photos shows a comparison to the stock 220.
Thank you Franky!

Title: Ready 4/2/20: New Tiburon Newell N220XN Extra Narrow Kits For 200 Series. $120
Post by: Vintage Offshore Tackle on March 10, 2020, 07:35:41 PM
We are going to pick up the new run of Tiburon Newell N220XN extra narrow (1 1/4" wide) frame and spool kits for the Newell 200 series on April 2. If you would like one (or more), please post your order here or send me a PM. I have 11 kits left available as of today, assuming that everyone who ordered them still wants them. If you already ordered one, I will be contacting you soon to confirm your order and make payment and shipping arrangements.

The frame width is 3/8" narrower than the 220, 7/8" narrower than the 229 and1 3/16" narrower than the 235. These kits will fit any 200 series Newell reel except that I have been told that they will not fit the Blackie series, as the hole pattern is different than all of the other models. If you have one of the S, C or No Letter reels with the long screws, you will also need some shorter screws.

These kits do not come with the standard Tiburon rod clamps because the bulge in the bottom of the 200 series right side plate is in the way, but we have some custom rod clamp kits that Tiburon made for this kit in case any of you would like to use them on a deckhand style rod. Hi Randy and others,  I recently bought a Newell 220 Graphite,  my first Newell reel. I've never taken one apart.  I know that some NEWELLS have side bolts that go all the way through.  I'm assuming this kit assembles like the Penn ones, right? I'm not quite ready to buy a kit but it's been on my mind.

Mike, I do have one kit left and I have to sell it with the customer Rod clamp kit the Tiburon produced specifically for these kits.  they cannot use the standard Tiburon Rod clamp set up because the bulge at the bottom of the right side plate is in the way. The kit is $120. My cost on the rod clamp kit is $35 and I would be happy to sell it at that price. Shipping would be $5.70 for USPS first class parcel with tracking.  If that works for you, please let me know. I accept Zelle, Venmo and PayPal.

Thank you for your interest. I'm sorry to say that they are sold out. If enough people express interest, we may be able to run them again later this year.  Would you like me to put your name on the list for one?

It's way too quiet in V.O.T. land!  Randy, are we getting closer to an order for these?

It's way too quiet in V.O.T. land!  Randy, are we getting closer to an order for these?

Thank you for getting me off of my butt Randy.   We have ordered a new run of the N220XN extra narrow kits for the Newell 200 series and they should be ready late January or early February.

Thank you!

Randy, can you add a list to your post to let us know if we are covered, you know like:

Randy P -(1) black (1) red
Sheridan- (1)black (1 ) red

I always find myself in a panic hoping I didn't forget to order when they arrive. (May just be an old age thing  ;D).

I am so looking forward to these little gems.

Randy, that's a great suggestion, and I would love to keep a running order summary going here, but I am a little bit concerned that someone might not want their business made public, so I am hesitant to do that.  Given my rapidly deteriorating memory, I promise you that I am scrupulously keeping a written record of all orders, and I will not forget your order or lose it, even if my computer crashes.

Thanks again,

Randy

Sheridan,

do those n220XN kit make the reel as small as the Avet sx?

some years ago I never saw myself using an avet sx, itwas just too dang small, nowadays seems that they are like the cell phones used to be, the smaller the better, accurate have some really small but strong reels, as well as penn with the new slow spitch reels.

I just sold my newell 229 but I will keep an eye for another one

Thank you Randy.  Next month I am picking up the N300XN extra narrow kits for the Newell 300 series.  Tiburon is asking me for the color mix so I need to get the orders in soon.  I will put up a post this weekend asking for orders, but if anyone sees this post and would like to order one, please send me a PM or post it here.

Thanks again for helping me to keep the ball rolling!

Alex, I don't have an SX here to compare, but I would guess that they are close to the same diameter.  The N220XN kit is probably slightly narrower than the SX.  I have a P229F here that I would rate as an 8 on a 10 scale if you decide that you want one.

Thank you,

Randy

I'd like a purple if you're doing any, if not red, Black would be ok if the other 2 aren't happening.
These frames go work well with Bryan's side plates if anyone is going all in.
Thanks Randy

thanks Randy, I was referring to keeping an eye for another 229 if I see it locally, many times they need some repair and guys sell them pretty cheap.
