Title: Coldwater 350 low profile issues
Post by: Robaki on December 01, 2019, 07:41:13 PM
Purchased a couple Coldwater 350 low pro Linecounters for river salmon trolling as these have rave reviews from the PNW salmon guys.
Right out of the box, both had issues. Button down the drag to max  and line still feeds out like the drag is backed all the way off. Also clicker doesn't sound when line being pulled out against the drag. Only clicks when cranking or freespool lineout. Kinda  defeats the purpose of a clicker.
Strange part is the drags seemed to work better when temp was warmer later in the day. Both
Issues still very intermittent. Probably grease related issues?
I didn't feel these new reels should need servicing right out of the box so I returned them and
Replaced with Daiwa Lexa line counters and now having same clicker issue with one of those. Ugh. 😏
I did like the feel of the Okumas so might still get a couple. Maybe I just got a couple lemons. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Anyone else seen issues like this with the coldwater low pro linecounters?

Your drag issue sounds a lot like you installed braid without tape or backing. As for the clicker: On some reels, the clicker won't work if the spool tension knob is set to allow too much free spool.

No backing but the Coldwater has a stud sticking out in the middle inside of the spool to attach the inside end of the line and watched the spool to be sure it wasn't slipping as I thought the same thing. Kinda not possible with the line attaching stud tho.  I tried both
Loose and tight on the tension knob as well as drag and still didn't fix.

I have half a dozen cold waters and 2 low profiles, I never experienced any issues with drag.

Can you put your thumb on the inside edge of the spool and with the drag tight can you stip line while you push down with your thumb?
