Post by: alantani on December 14, 2019, 12:50:21 AM
jerry brown's daughter, marilyn, has been my contact person for jblineone recently.  great lady, and she certainly has had a tough job trying to right the ship.  she is finally making progress.

Conviction update:

Yesterday, in a quiet courtroom with only courtroom personnel, attorneys, me, and the Jackson County Detective who arrested her, Christine Alana Ramirez changed her plea to guilty and was sentenced to 20 days in jail and restitution for the nearly $250,000 she embezzled from my 90-year old father and his fishing line business. She reports for her 20 day jail sentence on December 30th. While not a lengthy term, at least she'll be celebrating the New Year behind bars.

As part of the plea deal to avoid a 24 month prison term, she must make monthly restitution payments. During the first five years, if she is behind on payments at designated review dates (qtrly), she will go directly to prison for 43 months. At the rate of the monthly restitution ordered, it will take her about 22 years to pay back the sum she took in her two year reign of theft.

While I'm a "right fighter" and wanted to see her do more prison time, the reality is that we need to make my dad as financially whole as soon as possible. Most of the theft (200K) involved frivolous items and lavish travel, so there is simply no cash or employment opportunities for her to come up with money sooner – but we had to go with the deal that could at least get my dad something. Obviously at 90 my dad will not live to see the entire sum repaid.

I have to give a big shout out to the Jackson County District Attorney's office and Detective Lewis of the Jackson County Sheriff office. I've always been a big LE supporter, but today I am even more thankful. These people work tirelessly to support their community and fight for victims. The District Attorney communicated with me every step of the way and involved me in the decision making process of plea offers.

We've still got the fishing line business to get back on its feet after such a huge loss – so if you need awesome fishing line to catch "the big one" I can hook you up ya'll! #JBLineone

Friends and family – you've been my rock. Thanks for continuing to support me in this crazy new normal I've got going.

this is great news.  I sure hope the embezzler will honor the months payments.  I too would wish more jail time, but if she is in jail, they would not be holding a job to repay Jerry.  May Brown family be blessed this holiday season.

The probable outcome of a decision such as this is that the perp will make one or two payments then go underground and the family will never be righted.  Such a reprehensible deed.  At least there will always be the threat of imprisonment on her for her actions.
It's a rotten situation no matter how you look at it.

Would never fly in Minnesota; they won't send perps to prison for non-payment of restitution; smacks too much of imprisonment for debt, I suppose.  Hope it works in this case.

Thanks for the kind words all!  First sad update is that she was able to "buy" her way out of the 20 days by paying a fee for an ankle monitor.  Sigh.
UPSIDE of all of this -- I've made connections with some WONDERFUL fishing folks!
