Title: Is this a saltwater Garcia Mitchell reel?????? Photo is circa 1973
Post by: El Pescador on December 30, 2019, 01:01:20 AM
Jennifer and siblings are going through their parent's photos and they asked if I can ID this reel used by their Dad and Grandpa.

My thought is:

Looks to be a saltwater Garcia Mitchell.  Jen's Dad LOVED the Garcia Mitchell 300 reel that now is owned by her Brother.

These photos were taken in Kodiak, AK - circa 1973 - fishing for salmon on the Olds River.

Told her sibling I don't definitely know, BUTT have 5,000 fishing buddies who will know the exact model.

So, take a look a let me/us know your REEL ID thoughts.

TANKS.

Or possibly a 302. It's on a casting rod that's upside down.  :o

Midway!

Did see that as well.

Knowing Grandpa, he was a man who made do with what he had on hand.

Growing up in Salida, CO - he hunted squirrels at age 13 for dinner for his folks.  Not even high school educated, he was capable with his hands.  Wood or metal, Grandpa was able to craft most things with a bench vice, saw or file.

I'll post later, but he made kitchen knives from band steel from the local sawmill in the late 1950's.

Even made the ironing board we still use today.

So, if all he had was a casting pole for salmon fishing, he made due and was successful as well.

TANKS all.

The handle looks a little big compared to the body for a 302 to my eye. I'm thinking 306, 307 is the next one I'm looking for.
