Title: Lake Gregory Trout
Post by: Bill B on February 29, 2020, 10:40:24 PM
Got out this am for some trout fishing at Lake Gregory. It was cool and overcast. My neighbor caught a small 8" rainbow and I caught this 17" 1.5 lbs rainbow. Both were caught on nightcrawlers. Bill

I always enjoy eating trout. Especially if it is fresh out of the water.
Looks good

From by the ball fields by the senior center? That's where I used to go with my kids.

Thanks guys, Mark we were fishing next to the water slide park, directly across from the boat docks.  The contractor for the Lake Gregory Regional park lost his concession and it's up for bid, so now the lake is wide open to fishing, kayaking and float tubes....probably won't last with the new contractor.  Bill

Nice fish!  Many fond memories of that lake.  Can remember fishing it when it was mostly fenced and private in my younger days.

Benni I will be going back as soon as the weather gets better, with my new trout bait recipe 😉, snowed Sunday which is why I went out Saturday to see if the moving cold front would get the fish biting.....Darin unfortunately don't have a skillet big enough for this one....so at momma's request this was filleted and baked with some olive oil, salt and pepper, some Italian seasoning and lemon juice.   We ate the whole thing 👍  Bill

Nice trout , that's a great fish for the pan ! Sounds like a wilderness paradise  ;D !! Bill you need to come visit me as we have hundreds of lakes and rivers and no one hardly ever fishes trout in them. I don't know why I guess its because of the ocean fishing.  They are crazy for trout fishing in the interior of BC but we have some huge trout on the island and no one fishes for them ................ me included and my wife always brings it up as she loves trout.

Cheer:

Todd

Don, I would love to tell you I used a DQ 110 microlite on a custom built rod, but in reality I used a generic made in China spinning reel on a generic 5' spinning rod.  The line was 10 lb mono with a #10 J hook and 3/4 oz of lead in a dropper loop.  Bait was nightcrawlers.  This trip was a relaxing bait and wait trip, with more waiting and baiting and beer.  I need to find me a DQ 110  ;)  though.

Newport thank you for the kind words.

Thankfully the stay at home order is not being enforced at Lake Gregory right now, but we are keeping the usual "fish-distancing", except at the beer cooler  ;)...Bill

Got back out on Gregory this weekend. Was beautiful weather for a float tube trip. We are in between seasons right now with carp at the top of the list. I made some corn meal bait and loaded some bass gear just in case. Had a good time just getting out but the fish were not cooperating.

Hey Bill at least you got out there - I've spent the winter playing  with my tackle and still no fishing ;)
Things are starting to look better in the UK - I'm hoping some of my favourite fishing haunts open up soon. Jeesh I never envisaged times like this :(
