Title: Olympic 540 reels
Post by: david M on July 07, 2020, 10:00:02 PM
Anyone ever use these reels or know anything about them? Worth using? Easy to repair or find parts for?

Will they work for surf casting for surf perch?

Probably worth using for surf perch but they aren't the most corrosion resistant reels. I've owned a few of their skirted spinning reels but had a handle break apart and a exploded oscillation block. So be careful but I would use for smaller game fish.

Thanks. I'll probably steer clear then. Saw one for sell locally. Trying to find use gear for surf perch.

had some burgundy Olympics from mid/late 70's...  don't remember exact model
heavy for their size & weak for their weight...  functional, but not enjoyable
can't imagine anyone choosing one for the surf, or liking one enough to bother repairing it
